I agree with you that having to wait near the end of the window isn't ideal but it's a common trend even for major clubs unless you're desperate or backed by unlimited funds

Liverpool need a winger or 2 at the least, haven't managed anyone, needed a CB too had to get a questionable one on loan

United need a midfielder and left back, haven't managed either

Barcelona have wanted Rodri and Alvarez - haven't got either

Man City, PSG (Oil state funding) Madrid (Stumped up 140m for a kid), Chelsea (Paid a good 20-30m overpay for Morgan), Spurs (Crazy fee's for Tonali, Mateus, 50+m for a cb with 1 year left, 85m for savinho)

we're barely 2 weeks out from being prepared to break our transfer and wage record, and now all the PR spin is we're desperate to sell players? something doesn't add up

Unless this is a self imposed request where the Kroenke’s are pushing to tidy up matters rather than allow the club to get distracted by the next new thing.

Mirth Think it's a combination of just that; probably along with Marty not signing a new deal yet.

We only really have three assets to put on the market this summer: him, Myles and Nwaneri. Myles was floated to see what kind of fees he'd attract but both the player and Arteta seem to have opposed it heavily.

Signing Bruno and Hincapie and Tzolis means we're about £160-170 million out already this summer though. We're trying to get a centreback in who's expected to come with Premier League tax too.

We've increased our profits massively last season but it'll take a year for it to really show. It's not hard to imagine that Arteta was asked by the higher ups to choose between extra wingers and an extra centreback; not because our existence depends on it but because they want to balance the books after two big summers.

If Martinelli leaves I hope it means we're keeping Ethan though.

it'll take a year to show to the public, but Arsenal already know what kind of financial year they had ending May 31.

i think the club is just putting this out there as a notice to these other clubs that we aren't like those clubs that will pay crazy money for average quality, we're broke. but they won't fall for it. villa will say yeah we heard about your SCR issues, but konsa is still a 60m world class player.

Bernard Woolley he's perfectly entitled to do that but every year he hangs around picking up his big cheque the less respect I have for him. Giving him that contract was always ridiculous and its blown up in our faces.

I do wonder where his heads at. some of the performances late last season were chalked up to fatigue, which is definitely a factor, but homesickness is something ive wondered about too. the way he was locked to join pool in 2024 and did a late u-turn is a bit suspect

that wasn't homesickness it was his bond with the club, this rumour of homesickness has zero credibility - at this moment this sort of angle should be in houseboat

and btw the actual report if you bothered to see the actual news was that we signed merino that year and sociedad told us to wait till next year, which is why it was all agreed way before summer 2025

Yeah I dunno about the homesickness bit. I'm very willing to believe he's homesick—who wouldn't be if they moved from San Sebastián to London? I'm very doubtful he'd be pushing to leave—what would have changed about his decision to move for money and glory?

I reckon if he were really available, we would've heard something about it, at least in passing, during the Rodri saga.

Nah … I reckon if there's anything uncertain about Zubimendi's position it would be coming from Arteta, but even then I'm doubtful. Zubimendi had one of the smoothest adaptations from Spain to England we've seen, and if he suffered a downturn in form it was because his adaptation was so smooth.

I reckon more likely Arteta's looked at how wrecked all of Rice, Zubimendi and Ødegaard were just turning out in our system last season, and reasoned he needs them all plus Guimarães (and Eze, and Merino, and Skelly) just to continue with his approach to football.

I wouldn’t be opposed to Zubimendi leaving for the right price because it feels like we need a proper Rice backup more than any other role in our MF and a good price will also help fund our forward signing (whoever that may be) and will ensure MLS stays. Having said that, agree that the homesick rumours sound quite random - having Ode and MM9, to say nothing of Arteta at the club must create as familiar an environment as can be for him. I feel like he won’t move simply because it will be too much work to replace him this window and we don’t have the bandwidth for it.

Klaus Sounds like most of the noise is that he would rather not move and stay and move as a free agent next summer and also pick up his huge annual pay packet at Arsenal in the interim.

Bernard Woolley yeah unfortunately with our massive over pay on the contract there's no incentive to move and why club could think about getting him in a free and restarting the wages much lower
