If you follow my posts you'll clearly see I'm a fan of Martinelli. He certainly has limitations that are exposing him in our approach, and with our current level of player quality.
I don't think his quality is why teams aren't doubling him though. Our entire left flank is abject with fullbacks being shuffled in and out, and Rice's role being less about possession. Teams double down on our right flank partly because of the quality in Saka/Odegaard, but also because of our tendency to build possession through it, and slow the game down.
If he leaves it needs to be because we brought in a stud, not because we're planning to.
Heading into this season with just Tzolis and Eze at LWF would be absurd. I'll even extend that concern farther, heading into this season with Dowman and Madueke as our only cover for RWF (Saka) sounds risky to me, and I think half the reason Martinelli hasn't had a chance to displace Madueke is that Arteta prefers left footed players on the right.
