CPM Tough to sell Martinelli, but he's not a winger (can't dribble) and we're not going to 'platform' him as an inside forward which would maximize his talents. He's great when he has space to run into but that just doesn't happen enough playing for Arsenal.
The problem getting a fee for him is two-sided: firstly he's got a clear utility at Arsenal but our tactical outlook has sacrificed his gifts to extract the benefits of his work rate. Secondly he's not the template wing option a cashed-up CL contender is looking for: he would be viewed as technically deficient, and that's before you consider the reputation Arsenal fans have given him.
Any money-poor or mid-table club in Europe won't have the funds to risk paying top for a player who's not smashing it on end product. They hunt for possible end product difference-makers, even if that means gambling on tyros such as Wissa or Woltemade or even Nketiah. I suppose this is why the modest offers we've had have been from Turkey or the SPL … both environments where there's more money than there is elite football.
