Mirth But it’s astonishing how bad we are at marketing and selling players.
This has become a shibboleth amongst Arsenal fans but it would seem to imply the existence of players for who the buying team is sitting back and saying "I can't believe how cheaply we got this guy for considering what he produced". Do these players exist? Who would fit into this category? Biereth to Sturm Graz? Lokonga to Hamburg? Anyone else? Am I missing someone? Maybe Kiwior to Porto is the only "good" example of this.
Our most prominent recent sales have been Kiwior to Porto, Smith-Rowe to Fulham, Nketiah to Crystal Palace, Balogun to Monaco and Ramsdale to Southampton. Of those, Fulham, Palace and Southampton are probably actively pissed off about how badly we scammed them. Monaco are probably not super happy about how long Balogun took to establish himself but probably don't deem it an outright failure because there's a good chance they could make a modest profit on him. Porto are probably the only ones who are unambiguously happy about what they did.
I think we're "bad at selling" in the sense that we're a team that I could see us buying a centerback to replace Mosquera and then keeping Mosquera around to play ~500 minutes this season. As opposed to simply being honest about how many slots we have on the team and selling Mosquera for however much someone is willing to pay.
