Serious foul play
A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play.
Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force or endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play
You can feel aggrieved that similar tackles may not have had the same outcome (I've read about but haven't seen them), but you cannot say the tackle did not meet the literal definition of the laws of the game. Balogun studs raked down the achilles of the player. It doesn't have to have been intentional nor does it have to result in an injury, it just needs to have endangered the player. And it absolutely did.
