He's a quality defender. Hugely underrated. If we got him and Mertesacker I'd be very surprised though.

I'd take Samba at this point. I've completely given up on Djourou now. OT on Sunday was the final straw.. that was an embarrassing attempt at defending from him.

Samba and Mertesacker to push Djourou out of a starting place and Squillaci even futher out of contention wouldn't be a bad thing. The only thing is, we need top class players and the names we are being linked to at the minute, that are realistic, aren't that. Samba, Benayoun, Malouda and Mertesacker would all be good additions collectively, but as individuals it's all very meh.

We need a spark, a lift and none of those players are gonna bring that.

We surely can't be signing Samba and Mertesaker both?

At some point in the season they both might need to play together. That is just unbalanced.

Either one of the two and Cahill/ Jagielka wouldn't be bad but that seems too good to be true.

James just gave me an idea on twitter. Fuck Samba, take Per now and grap Cahill in January.

Sure isn't. He's better than the squad depth we currently have though, and I'll take that. I think both Samba and Mertesacker are the wrong signings to make for what it's worth, but neither one would have let Welbeck score that goal on Old Trafford.
