A much fabled coach isn't going to make any difference.
Well as you said swings and roundabouts, we trade off cheap goals against the high line and pressing etc. etc.
CB doesn't worry me so much in terms of personnel and I don't think coaching alone helps us without dismantling the other aspects of our game. The proof is that we've had issues with defending with CBs who are perfectly good by top tier standards like Gallas and Touré.
Which is why, for me, our priority is not Chris Samba or Colosso Jamon or Gigante Front-de-Boeuf or whatever other centre half panacea is being demanded e.g. Gary Cahill.
They'd be good, but not as good as buying a great new goal-hungry psycho striker who can play with or without Van Persie, getting a serious competitor to Song, and getting a far better wide player (whether fullback or winger). Those are our priorities in order in my opinion.
In the last couple of summers we've dropped 25m on centre halves without fixing our issues, we gave away Ashley Cole for Gallas and change without fixing our issues, we released Touré and saw little change. We have invested heavily in this area by our standards, and all we've proven is that investment doesn't bring great returns in this area.
Anyway, I think I'm basically agreeing with you. The problem is not the coach or the players or the formation, it's all three and an operation to fix all three can't be conducted without killing the patient.
