Big Willie I also thought the attitude is some of the players wasn't good enough and that's not really on even if it's not your priority. It felt like they thought it would be relatively easy and the weren't 100% on it. Gabriel made some terrible misjudgements and martinelli, havertz and Ode were playing and found it difficult to impact the game consistently and they are likely to be involved.

Big Willie no I don't think Southampton should have been able to beat the Arsenal side Arteta put out, but hey, shit happens. It also points to the players - as both you and awooga have pointed out - not being on it on the night. Arteta can take the blame for that, but really it's at least equally on the players.

I've already had to repeat the point I made initially regarding the league, I'm not doing it again but I guess it's pretty clear we disagree on that anyway.

Which is what exactly? Because according to your first sentence here we agree that we should not be expected to lose to Southampton, rotated side or not.

Which part of my post that you replied to do you disagree with then? That I still believe we can win the title? Or that I can understand why people's confidence from the two recent losses could be shaken and cause them to not believe we can win the title. If it is neither then I don't see a point of disagreement.

Yes. We will win the Premier League.

I don't think we are going to win the Champions League if Bayern make it to the final but I do like us making it to the final.

samthegooner we beat Bayern and we can beat them again.

If we win the league we will be favourites for CL as the weight will be off our shoulders. We would go in the CL with such good feel factor and form we could win CL too.

Bayern and Barca are basically having bigger leads than us in the league and psg get ligue 1 to accommodate their fixtures around the cl

We'll be playing the semi's with our depth being tested in the pl too, while they can focus on the games against us because their leads are so big

This is the camp I'm in. And given the two exceptionally ignominious cup exits, I hope others share my view that if we don't win, the club has to call time on Arteta. For us to throw the title away from here would indicate there's a decisive deficiency in his approach.

Burnwinter Very fair. This was my position before the season started too: Berta came in and made the necessary signings, which sent a clear signal to Arteta: you've got players who are good enough - now go out there and win.

His management this season has been legitimately great, and I say that as someone who is neither a big fan of Arteta as a person nor of his football. Dropping the league from this position would be the biggest bottle job in history. It's out of line with what we've seen from this team and this manager during the previous 95% of the season and it's not going to happen.

Right, he's evidently got the chops. And I was also in the "major trophy or he should go" camp before the season. However we have to think there's things he does we don't see that influence outcomes negatively as well. The players support him and I do too, but it's also my view he must win this league title now.

To win would put the struggles of the past few seasons in the proper perspective, and would reward a few of those players who've given their blood in time to renew the squad in the right spirit.

I believe we'll win and I've voted accordingly.

Everything would be ticking along nicely, and then you’d get us all killed by going off-script to settle a score from some war 200-odd years ago. Or you’d insist on some wildly unlikely plan just because it’s the anniversary of it miraculously working back in WW2.

And that’s before you’d inevitably have a full-on meltdown the moment you found out the opposition were taking the piss out of us in the WhatsApp group.
