I spent a couple of weeks on the Antarctic peninsula during December two years ago. It wasn't that cold, and certainly not windy. By and large it was sunny, clear and calm with the temperature hovering around zero, and occasional soft snowfalls. However, the peninsula isn't actually inside the Antarctic circle (check it out on a map).
Calgary recently was far worse. Far colder, shitty wind etc.
Antarctica is the most beautiful place I've ever been, and I flatter myself that I've seen a few of the other contenders 🙂 You can't really describe the preternatural calmness of a world which is made up of an infinite number of shades of blue. Penguin shit is the only pollutant in that paradise, short of the odd abandoned whaling station.
