Pre Carabo Cup final we were in a position where ALL the pressure was on City. Losing (and also the way we lost) has meant some of the pressure goes back on us.

Now if we have good win v Southampton and a good result away in Lisbon this will alleviate some of the pressure but make not mistake that Bournemouth game is a once in a generation game and automatically becomes the biggest game of the season. Win that and then City have it all to do v Chelsea away.

Another swing of points in our favour and I think we are close to the title as Mikel will want to seek revenge at the Eithad.

Like you said, biggest game of the season is the Bournemouth one. Considering after that we have City then Newcastle...if we drop points it could lead to a disaster. If we win the City game becomes a free hit in my book.
Chelsea of last month ... I trusted to get something out of the City game, but now, I'm not so sure. But it does not matter: Borunemouth - CIty - Newcastle, get 6 points and we are golden. But yeah, with the pressure on, very hard games for us.

The league cup is a side show. It doesn't change anything in the league. It was never a springboard to added success if we won and its not something we have to worry about after losing it. No pressure mounted on Liverpool after they fluffed it last year. The team just needs to keep on trucking as it has all year.

That Liverpool team last year had a history of winning big trophies. It puts more pressure on us because we've failed to win and ended up 2nd yet again. We didn't look like a team who knew how to get over the finish line. The 2nd half schooling at that stage is cause for worry for the remaining crucial games.

People keep going on about how Pep has Artetas number but until this week nothing was further from the truth. Arteta made mistakes but that's it, its not a sign of something bigger. It just is what it is. Pep tried some tactical stuff and it worked, he tries shit like this all time and it backfires plenty too. It didn't work because "he has Artetas number" or whatever. It worked because we were missing key players, Havertz and White weren't fit and Arteta made the wrong decision in goal. A lot of it was luck on Peps part. We had all the play and chances in the first half hour.

we beat these guys 5-1 last year. it was at home, but folks seem to forget that before this weekend, we had not lost to City for about 3 years. Yes, the games are not exactly visual masterpieces because the tactics net out and create an overly tentative chess game, but we tend to know how to play this team.

i think we will also adjust. First, they pressed very high up with a large number of people. Kepa is not a passer. Raya will beat that press quite easily with passes into the central area of the park. Second, they targeted our left flank to pull Gabriel out of defending crosses. again, i think we will adapt with better coverage from left wing - probably by using Martinelli instead of Trossard. so we should be able to neutralise them. and then hopefully we can see Odegaard (who opened our scoring in the 5-1) paired with one of Gyok/Havertz

HomeSteak the thing that's giving me confidence is City are poor themselves. The final was an awful horrible match and until we completely shat the bed they looked mediocre, was insane this was supposed to be #1 and #2 in the bestest league in the universe going machine for machine in a final.

We'll drop points but so will they.

After the cup final I don't think we will lose at the Emptyhad but that's probably just my heart talking rather than my head.

Qwiss maybe but this is the 5th time in a row Pep has beaten Arteta in a ‘one to one’ competitive tournament (2 leagues, 1 fa cup and 2 league cups). We can’t let it be 6 times in a row, we simply can’t.

Sicario2 this is good. I’m hoping the points gap allows us to play relatively loose. And hence continue to maintain or build the gap. Let’s see if they crumble under the pressure of having to close this gap. Except if they do, pundits wont call it crumbling - they’ll call it the worst league ever

Meh, they aren't the same as us. Never were and never will be, there was never any real pressure on Spurs to anything, not in a way that’s comparable to Arsenal, Liverpool, United, etc

Maybe not, but there is a little bit of reality with what he said. Yeah, they are never 'really' expected to win things, but they had a good team, and they were in a major final, and it was probably their only real chance to win something, and when it didnt happen, they pretty much knew it was over.

If we come away empty handed this season, after all the hype, all the investment, all the 'leading this competition or that competition', there will be a natural let down, especially since the WC is this summer, and half the squad will probably return shattered physically and mentally.

I didnt say we would fold like a house of cards like Spurs have, but it would be a huge letdown after all we've built. Granted, our team has been built little by little, with key investments, and with the squad to withstand a huge downturn, but it would be a big letdown if we end the season empty.

If we win, the pressure is gone (well, certainly less).. If we don't, the pressure increases exponentially
