Sicario2 He can only do so much. Pep has with top class players produced top class results. That isn't me putting him down, plenty of coaches have had top players and fucked up before and to have the level of success he has is remarkable and shows how good a coach he is.

However, he has never taken a bunch of average or above average players and elevated to them a level they don't belong to.

Sicario2 the still have Mansour which is why they thought they could go out and buy what they lacked in Semenyo. Pep is gone, he's off the wall bizarro Pep now. Maybe there is a reason he never stayed this long at the same club. He needs a new challenge.

They've still got tons of great players and a justifiably huge nett squad value. Main issue is they've underinvested somewhat in defence. They've spent plenty. Half thought they'd bought the league again with Guéhi and Semenyo only a few weeks ago ... and they still might have.

It's still a very good team that can compete for titles and could still usurp us - it's more how they compare to their 90+ points teams.

Now they're speculating on players from Ligue 1 like the rest of us. It's had a detrimental impact on the quality of their team and they're no longer outspending everyone now, either.

So after the international break we play Southampton away in the FA Cup at 8 PM on the Sat before facing Sporting away on Tuesday.

Bournemouth at home at 1230 on the Sat post 1st leg and City away after second leg Wednesday.

Actually quite well spread out but I would expect a B team v Southampton especially if we win the Carabo Cup.

it's sort of weird that it feels lighter after February where we played 17 games in 2 months. The sheer volume should recontextualise a lot of the results in that period both good and bad.

When will City's game in hand against Palace get put on the calendar? I was assuming they would be waiting to see if they were progressing in UCL but since they are not, I'd imagine they'd be looking to schedule it relatively soon. Anyone have any ideas on timing for that?

samthegooner depends on Palace’s involvement in Europe. If Palace get knocked out tonight the earliest they can put it is the midweek after our game v City away but this issue is Palace play on the Monday that week unless they move their game back by 24 hours.

samthegooner this means we’ve done the hard part and we just need to finish the job off.

The fact we only have one ‘big six’ team left to face in the league compared to the start of the season where 4 out of our first 6 games were : Utd away (which looks an even better result considering they are 3rd), Liverpool away, Newcastle away and Man City at home shows how much heavy lifting we’ve already done.

Now we just have to convert and enjoy the fruits of our labour.

@samthegooner Palace go through. Their re-arranged game with City can NOT occur before we face City which is a good thing. Beat Bournemouth and whatever happens we are at least 9 points clear of City before we face them at the Eithad.

Sicario2 Appreciate it- I forgot about Palace also being in Europe. Makes sense that they have to wait now. I agree that we've put ourselves in the drivers seat both with our points and also remaining schedule. Just need to win the next two against Bournemouth and City and it's pretty much over. I'd prefer for the games against Newcastle and Fulham, both teams we always struggle with, to be a little less stressful.
