Why go for Bruno when bouaddi is available at a slightly higher price? Not sure if I fully buy this but wouldn’t bet my life on it either

I might be watching a different Bruno to some of you because I think he's brilliant. Well clear of Tonali in that Newcastle midfield and probably one of the best 3 or 4 players in the league not playing for the us, City or Liverpool.

TambourineMan all you have to do is look at Newcastle fan reactions to the thoughts of selling them. They're fine with Tonali going but losing their minds at the idea of Bruno leaving. Bruno has been their best player (along with Isak I suppose) for the last few years. He's up there with the best midfielders in the league. I've a few concerns about paying over £60m for a 29 year old but he's a seriously good player and if he's used in a rotation system we should be able to get the best of him. Next season we'd have an unreal selection of mids if this happened. We'd basically be in a situation where our second choice midfield was better than everyone in the leagues first choice bar maybe City.

Claudius Depends on what you believe on Rice’s fitness. I don’t think he will (or should) play much for the first 3 months of the season and I am unsure what his availability will be in the back half so I would prioritise someone who can step in for him. A Bruno - Zubi or Bruno - MLS midfield will get run over with our forward line who can’t retain the ball for long periods. While Bruno is a good progressive MF who will improve our best line up and likely take Zubi’s starting spot, it’s not what I would prioritise for next season.

his profile is actually perfect, he'll age out right about when MLS steps up and takes the position. and if MLS does this quicker, he becomes a great (albeit) expensive squad option.

we're in the win now stage, and Bruno contributes to that more than any other midfielder we've been linked to.

Can't see Newcastle selling for less than Tonali and would expect the club know that. So unless Kia is whispering sweet nothings (ie. bullshit) in Berta's ear, then I have to believe we're just playing.

He's older with a year less on his contract than Tonali though. I think something's up if we're bidding: might be that Howe is just about on his way, might just be that the mood in the dressing room is dire, as I think it's been poor for ages.

Sicario2 this isn’t the 90s. Most top players can play into their mid 30s assuming they don’t have a history of injuries and are somewhat professional.

Mirth central midfield is a different story as physicality plays a part. Look at Casemiro in his second season at Utd - leave the football before the football leaves you.

I know last season Casemiro was a bit better but that was mainly because he was playing once a week football so could rest properly, Bruno won’t have that luxury with us.

Sicario2 but conversely the likes of Kroos and Fernandinho played in midfield till their mid 30s easily. It depends on the player and most of them manage a lot longer than 31!

And he’s coming in as a rotation option - not a de facto starter

We will still have MLS and Zubi to rotate so I'm not too worried about his legs going.

From Newcastle's point of view he has 2 years left and is aging so this is when they can get max value and start a rebuild. Probably why we are testing the waters.

Mirth I don’t know if that’s true. Top teams don’t have tons of older players. So clearly the physical demands are such that a top team can’t carry an older player. But you see the top players dropping down to smaller clubs and lower leagues as they age. Where do the old players from Mottibgham Forest and Leeds end up though?

So we might see more older superstars, but they’re managing their careers versus being central in big clubs

Burnwinter PIF seem to have lost intrerest in Newcastle. All their top players are leaving and their replacement are decidedly mid-table.

If we get Bruno it'll be because we get a really good price. For 40-50 million he's easily worth it.

Don't buy for a second that he's the main target this summer though. It's probably just Berta making inquiries about all the players we've been tracking, same with the rumours about the Belgian winger. That's how he works.
