Or Eze, or Gyökeres. We spent a lot on "jury's out" signings last window in retrospect. Each of them has done a few useful things, but none of the three is locked in as a starter. It's not quite at the level of the Raya, Rice, Havertz, Timber window that's for sure.

Claudius game states don't exist in a vacuum. If we insist on pressing high and horseshoe-of-deathing it while offering no threat in transition, of course our 'dribblers' will never get to dribble.

correct, but i just decided to limit it to semenyo's position. he was also the one player guaranteed to be at the level we needed who could play both wings at an extremely high level. noni was claimed to have that right/left versatility as well, but that's not really true.

Alvarez or Barcola to super charge the attack.

None of those guys would start for us. All a clear level below what we need in midfield.

Qwiss I don’t think so - they’re not as good as Rice and Zubimendi but the drop off wouldn’t be significant with any of them stepping in.

It’s either that or splashing on someone like Camavinga but then I think you start to take away what we could spend on the attack

I think the Yildiz ship has sailed for now. Usually when Juve extends it’s not to sell for more immediately.

I have made my thoughts well known on two of my big wants which @Burnwinter mentioned early in this. Alvarez to replace Jesus as a versatile forward with elite ball striking and pressing ability. I’d start him at 9 with Havertz behind him and we would see the fluidity of our attack jump to new levels IMO while losing nothing OOP since they are both pressing monsters.

I like Bouaddi both as immediate cover for Rice but also taking a very good chance at hitting a world class midfielder in a couple of years before his price is 100m+.

One thing I think we should also be looking at is a better passer in the midfield. Wharton is the obvious choice but his deficiencies in duals probably rules him out from a typical Arteta signing. Bouaddi is a good passer but not elite and is more of a carrier. I haven’t spent a lot of time looking for this profile so not sure who else would fit here.

Finally there are the players I’d bring in if we decided we needed some big shakeups. For example if we got rid of Martinelli this summer, I’d be very interested in throwing our hats in for Yan Diomande. He just looks like a better version of Semenyo to me with elite dribbling. I also like the look of the French winger at Frankfurt, Jean-Matteo Bahoya, who we were monitoring earlier this season. And I don’t know what it would take to bring him in but Esposito at Inter looks like such an old school Italian 9 and a dynamic target man. If we wanted to go that direction I wouldn’t mind it at all. Just some pre-match ramblings from a guy who always likes looking at some other players but has been wrong more times than right!

HomeSteak I think we would be silly not to at least take a look at Odegaard and determine if we can make it work with him as we continue to ascend. My only issue with him is I don’t think he’s right for the most advanced midfielder in our trio. I’ve always said he reminds me more of Bernardo Silva than KDB and that advanced midfield spot should have more of an output oriented CM. Unfortunately for Odegaard, Rice and Zubimendi just fit better in those other two CM spots. Ideally we could rotate the three of them but the fact he’s captain complicates that.

I just don’t know who I would go after to replace him. It would have to be someone like Bruno Fernandes but clearly we aren’t going for him. Nico Paz would be a very interesting shout but I know he’s going back to Madrid. I’m quite intrigued by Saka moving inside and a potential rotation of Saka/Kai/Eze/Nwaneri could be really dynamic.

In an ideal world, we could get him to buy in to being part of a rotation in the midfield since I still love his game but he’s limiting us as our most advanced midfielder IMO.

IF we were to move Odegaard on this summer, Arda Guler would be very high on my list.
