tazmania I don’t trust the Spanish media for an instant with any of these stories. I also am of the belief that a rising tide moves all boats and get him in this changing room and he will be good. And if he decides he doesn’t want to then totally fine. Lest we forget that Kun Aguero was desperate to join Madrid and when they wouldn’t sell him to Real, went to City and became a legend. I have the utmost faith in our club and Arteta and if they want him, I do too. I can guarantee I won’t be thinking of any of this stuff if he comes and scores a beauty against Chelsea in his first appearance.

He gives the best teams in the world a ton of trouble. Look at his performances against Real, Barca, Arsenal in the league phase (he was clearly hobbled in the semis) and some of his other Champions League matches. He was a terror- popping up in pockets all over the pitch, pressing like a demon and if he gets an inch of space around the box he can score a worldie. We need 1-2 more match winners to win the CL and he fits the bill. If he helped us win a few more trophies in the next two years, I couldn’t care less if we then sold him to Barca.

Neither Kroupi nor Alvarez is a left sided player. I'd happily take Kroupi, not as keen on Alvarez, but neither fixes our depth / starting on the left as far as I can see.

Ray his stats are great when played as the main CF, just hasn't played that position consistently throughout his time at City and in Spain.

Football wise he would be a massive upgrade to our squad, in a position where we can make the biggest gains, Gyok had an ok second half to the season but the guy is barely a footballer... This whole circus around him is giving me doubts but it has nothing to do with ability on the pitch.

I don’t necessarily disagree with your points, or CPM’s in the port after yours, but at some point we need players who are actually going to score the goals and not just be link up merchants. A potential front four containing Havertz, Saka, Odegaard, and maybe Alvarez doesn’t scream goals to me. Saka and Havertz have the potential to put up decent numbers but have it all to prove. Odegaard and Alvarez are far from clinical in terms of putting end product up.

I find it hard to believe that Arsenal would have approached him, got rejected and was like yeah lets keep in touch and randomly just calls him when they feel like it to try again. Sounds like absolute bollocks to me. Every Latin American player dreams of Barca/R.Madrid so not surprising that is his first choice. He is 26 and probably knows it is now or never for him.

Footballers are thick and easily manipulated, his behaviour has Barca's fingerprints all over it.

Klaus Alvarez is 26 and scored 8 league goals last season.

Last season stats should be taken in account but I think his first season at Atletico is a more closer representation of his overall ability as a player.

One concern with this is you could end up with both Martinelli and Gyokeres out. Those two and Madueke are the guys who can stretch the field. Our problem last year was injuries forced us to play them together instead of with creatives. But these 3 have useful profiles

The right strategy would be to keep coaxing the player into burning every bridge with Atletico Madrid and letting Barcelona carry the blame for that, but also to be the only club Atleti remains willing to do a deal with. That might give us a chance to gut-shot a deal at some value around €110–120m, or maybe a Gyökeres plus cash deal. I suspect Barca won't be there for Alvarez. Their whole concept seems to have been to shake him out of Atleti on the cheap.

I am curious as to what Liverpool are doing with Barcola or if we'd face any late-arriving English rivals for Alvarez.

Nah, just leave him. For the first time in a long while we're in a position where we only have to take players who actually want to play for us, and due to recent fortunes it's virtually everyone. We shouldn't stock up on dodgy players with incorrect mentality. We've been fighting tooth and nail to get rid of this exact profile for years. We won last year with the players we have now and we'll win this year again with them. Alvarez changes nothing. It's like the left wing: in 12 months there might be better options or we might have worked out an internal solution. The answer either way is not on the current market.

We are waiting for positive signs from the player😂 how many times is someone going to tell us to fuck off before we accept it. We should be steering clear of this guy way to much off pitch drama and he really isn't a massive goalscorer and that's where we need to improve for the highest level.
