When he was first linked didn't want as thought he was average, old and overpriced and then they bloody linked us with Romero and Quansah and now I'm grateful it's him. Well played lol.

Was the 1st choice target and I trust them with defensive signings. Villa fans see him as their best defender and they are a pretty good team. So all in all the signing makes sense.

Hopefully gives them time to get the big attacker as well and it'll be a successful window.

I’m happy we are adopting a ‘win now’ strategy but at the same time a lot of our players will be nearly 30 next summer. Our average age of the squad has gone up with Bruno G and if we get Konsa over the line. I guess that’s next years problem.

Probably not since Norgaard and Trossard are older.

This is the right age profile for a squad looking to compete across multiple trophies in the next 2-3 years.

In many ways this reminds me of a Man United transfer window under Ferguson.

Claudius yeah but I don't like Konsa at RB and TBH it's not ideal for Mosquera either. Would have rather signed a real right back and let White have some CB minutes if needed.

He'll be fine at CB I'm sure just don't think he is worth the money and its annoying how we've prioritised this while the attack still hasn't been improved.

I agree that attack is the number one priority but solving defence is a top 3 priority too.

White, timber, cala are all crocks really and saliba will be out for ages - 1 injury to Gabriel or mosquera and we are in big big trouble centrally so this signing makes sense

at the end of the day I would much rather play a makeshift RB than a makeshift CB

Sicario2 you might want to re-read what Qwiss said. I don't think anyone is disputing the need for a defender.

Sicario2 we should have sold and replaced White IMO. We haven't moved on any of our persistent injury problem players and don't appear to be trying to. In fact from the first team we've really only sold the very reliably fit Trossard. And the other first teamer we are looking to move is Martinelli who has also had great availability.

Mirth we definitely needed a defender. This signing as much as I am not really excited by it does provide another solid, useable defender and we did need one. I just think we needed a full back more given our injury issues. Maybe Saliba is worse than we know though and Timber not as bad.

Qwiss the thing is none of our fullbacks are actually traditional fullbacks. That’s just how Arteta likes to set up and Konsa’s here to cover two positions.

There's no world in which we could have sold White (we could have bought out his contract, but that seems pretty pointless). He needs to re-establish fitness before anyone else is going to buy him. Generally the reasons why you want us to get rid of players are the reasons we can't.

RowJimmy there was reported interest from Everton before the window. I find it very hard to believe White wouldn't have interest. I also find it hard to balance the idea that no one else wants our players but also they are good enough for us.

Who is it other than White that you think we should have sold? Jesus Vieira and Nelson. None of whom are "good enough for us."
What I'd say about White is that he could be sold for 40M if he's proven healthy and 5M if not. To me that means it's better business to keep him for the moment. (And he's certainly "good enough for us.")
The other issue is that our players don't want to leave. They're on a championship winning team, they live in London, they get paid well. These are all features that help us recruit good players and we can't make them go away when we want to sell players.

Probably Kai. He's a good player but he's played so little in the last 2 years that I'd be seriously worried about him being fit all season. People talk about Timber but he's played about the double what Kai has over the 2 season. Odegaard missed a lot last season but is usually ok and still played way more than Kai last year. Cala, we all know his injury record is bad but again played more than Kai over the last 2 seasons.

Genuinely a huge issue. I was hoping we'd sign someone this summer who would take some of the pressure off and be a bit of a 3rd choice option if he gets injured again.

Sicario2 Forgot that Sven Botman was still playing - I looked him up and he's apparently 26? It feels like he's at least 103. Bloke's been knocking about for nearly a decade already, and been shit most of it.
