Coombs Trossard wanting the move should be irrelevant to us. He was under contract and was free to see out his contract and then move elsewhere for a big payday.

Our attack generally sucks, and LW is one of the positions we desperately need to upgrade. We don’t do that by getting rid of our first-choice left winger and then opening the door for our second- or third-choice wingers to stake a claim in the team. He was worth more to us than £17m - peanuts in today's market

Also, where did you read that he was on high wages? If anything, there were reports that his wages were quite low, and we decided to improve his contract before the start of last season.

The club can't keep buying players without selling too, it becomes unsustainable

Also, putting sentiment aside from the west ham goal he's a year older and went 3-4 months without doing anything notable

Tactics He probably is but he is definitely not ahead of the curve on transfers. He is trying his best to stay relevant with hardly any info in my opinion.

Gunner89 £17m is peanuts though, I don't think it's worth potentially weakening our attack for that amount

Oh there's no argument from me, we needed to upgrade on him. But the point is, overal he was still our best option last season. I don't want us to just hand the keys to the guys who looked inferior to him in that position

Qwiss Vini was going to be on £24m a year and Rogers is only less than £8m. The price difference for the 2 was huge.

Yeah I'm gutted we missed out on Vini and I'm not a big fan of Rogers but comparing only their transfer fees is silly.

Mirth He could score more than Trossard did during the period he went AWOL, but overal still turns out to be the inferior player

I'm not treating the Tzolis signing as anything more than a punt. Obviously, I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised by him and he turns out to be a massive hit. However, I'm gonna adjust my expectations and give him time to aclamatise to the league, our playing style etc

I'm hoping he hits similar heights Mosquera did last season, anything above that would be amazing!!!

Tactics my point was that Trossard's on a clear downward trajectory. On balance, maybe it would be better that Trossard stayed if we don't sign anyone else but his year over year numbers have been going down and he went six months without scoring for us - except that clutch goal vs West Ham. There's very valid reasons to want him out as well.

Mirth @Tactics also keeping a player here just because he’s on contract is a good way to disrupt our good locker room chemistry. It sounded like Trossard wanted to get one more very good wage package before his career was over and we helped him do that. We got a below market value fee back for him but he more than paid for it with his performances over the years and I believe players want to play for a club that respects its players wishes. Personally I think we sold at the perfect time and I’m very bullish on Tzolis fitting in well. His last preseason match (literally his second game and only a week into training) is coloring everyone’s view of that move imo.

Mirth I feel like this argument is missing the point. We shouldn't have kept Trossard for the reasons you say but its also not ok to let him go and only bring in Tzolis as a replacement. We all expected an upgrade on the left, not a downgrade.

Gunner89 Romero is good until he isn't. He's one of those 90% defenders and that's the last thing we need because that other 10% costs you titles. Is he really going to come and be 3rd choice here too?

Mirth Think his numbers were actually better last season compared to the season before. His performances did drop in the 2nd half of the season but to be fair to him, footballers are not generally consistently good throughout a season. Some struggle at the start and hit form later, others start well, hit a dip in the middle, and pick up form later, etc this is quite normal

romero is technically a very talented defender and arteta can definitely steady him to an extent

How much though? that's the thing - He's like a xhaka of a cb, madness always a moment away just when you think he's ironed it out
