Disagree. Whatever else he could be, Rogers would definitely not have been a decisive upgrade to our attack. He's not amazing. To put it in perspective, Guimarães scores more often per 90 and has double Rogers' shot conversion rate …

The Rogers deal was an either-or with various other targets we've been looking at. With £117m the ask, meeting it would have meant the risk on signing Rogers was zero … because we'd have hugely overpaid.

We missed out on Vinicius Jr at that price point with insane wages on top, but the reward on Vinicius Jr wouldn't even have been in the same galaxy as the relatively ho-hum signing of Rogers would've been. I'd have set aside Rogers to chase that transfer ten times in ten.

Agree MGW is excellent too but again we don't need another central attacking mid. Not buying into this "make Eze a LW" like its an option you can pick on FIFA.

Gunner89 Cunha is more a second striker and we tried for Mbeumo initially but I think the price but also him wanted to be guaranteed first team football ruled that out. Also he is mainly a RW where we already have Saka, hence why he probably didn't fancy his chances at benching him.

Semenyo looks like someone we have missed out but sounds like we did ask him to wait until the summer but he wanted some sort of guarantee which we weren't prepared to give. Who knows we may have become aware that Vini Jr might be available so possibly were working on that in the background. We only know a fraction of what is going on in the background.

If we move eze left, then I'd take morgan gibbs white, he is in that 70m price range, 2 years left on his deal, probably has some clause and only signed a very short renewal at forest

I agree on the hesitation with Yildiz. I put decent weight in the current clubs’ fans opinion of a player and he certainly doesn’t have the acclaim that you would expect among his own fans. He reminds me a bit of Rogers in big midfield/forward hybrids who are good dribblers and good but inconsistent finishers who don’t have elite pace. These guys can certainly work but I’d prefer either more pace or someone who is closer to their ceiling if we are going to be paying over 100m and in our title window. It’s why I keep coming back to Alvarez. He scared me shitless when we played them in the fall during CL last year and reading rival fan accounts as well as listening to a few friends, he’s a feared player by rivals in La Liga too.

I dont get the fear for Alvarez. He's a good player, but not top top. I wouldnt sneer at him signing with us, but i don't think he's the end all be all that some people things he is. The one thing he has going for him is that he has already played in the Prem, so he knows how it is.
