There's no one out there who'd be a significant improvement on Martinelli at this stage. Barcola might be due to his higher technical quality but he's on par or below Martinelli in all other areas (work rate, finishing etc.).

Sad state of affairs. Watching another season of our attack being crap is gonna be painful.

Id probably stick with Martinelli at this rate, dont see any significant upgrades out there right now... Bin Jesus and get a proper skillful forward who can bring other into play (Alveraz/Kroupi would do..), along with Bruno and i wouldnt be suprised if Martinelli finds some form again

another fullback who is actually good on the ball would be nice too.

Doc i think people are understating our premiership winning team from last year. It's still a young team and is likely to improve with more bedding in of last yer recruits. I don't much out there who are better than Martinelle and People just wrote off Tzoulis because he is not worth over 100 million. We had a fair amount of injuries last season with Saka, Odegaard, White, Timber, Marino and still won the league. Not to mention youngsters like Dowman and MLS coming up. I think we are good to go as is.

Think people are really underrating Alverez because of his lack of goals, for City and Atletico he has played significant number games along side a main CF.. his goal record when playing as a lone CF is a lot better.. He's a demon.

Tactics

The Trossard sale was one of the most pointless ever. Yes, we needed to upgrade on him, but he was worth more to us than the £17 million we received for him.

Tactics strongly disagree. Trossard obviously wanted the move - he wasn't forced out. You need to refresh the team and let people have their paydays when the timing is right. We just won the league and he was part of a LW that everyone agrees wasn't quite working. He's the older guy in that position on high(ish) wages. Exactly the kind of guy we'd have kept in the past on improved terms to our total detriment. Selling Trossard was absolutely the right move no matter what happens this window.

Tactics

Coombs Trossard wanting the move should be irrelevant to us. He was under contract and was free to see out his contract and then move elsewhere for a big payday.

Our attack generally sucks, and LW is one of the positions we desperately need to upgrade. We don’t do that by getting rid of our first-choice left winger and then opening the door for our second- or third-choice wingers to stake a claim in the team. He was worth more to us than £17m - peanuts in today's market

Also, where did you read that he was on high wages? If anything, there were reports that his wages were quite low, and we decided to improve his contract before the start of last season.

IF, and it’s a big if, Alvarez wants to come here and isn’t just going to twerk for Barca every summer, I’m down for him (especially if it’s a swap plus cash with Gyokeres although that is very unlikely). He’s going to surprise a lot of people who are just looking at his league stats. He would definitely liven up our attack and could be a really interesting option as a second striker or left winger that plays more inside.

viennacoup I don't think you're wrong that we'll have enough to pip a Rodri-less City and leaky Liverpool to the PL title even with no further additions to the squad but it'll be a slog and if we go far in the CL, it'll be dicey around April and May.

With everybody else in transition and rebuilding we should walk the league next season but with our attack as is, there is no guarantee of that.

We have an incredible opportunity to go back-to-back and need to capitalise on that momentum by improving the weakest part of this team - the attack. And so far this summer, we've not accomplished that.

But there is time to go and I hope the club find a way before the window shuts.

I think we should try about about any academy kid on LW and make it work. Nwaneri, O'neal, dowman plus others all should be rotated on the LW

I wouldn't be surprised if Dowman solves the problem before too long by forcing himself into the first team reckoning, but on the right wing and with Saka moving across. I don't think Saka's game would suffer that much by him moving to the left to accommodate Max on the right. He'd lose the ability to cut inside on his favoured foot, but he's been getting less and less opportunities to do that these days. If Max keeps developing he'll need multiple players on him at all times and I think Saka would have the game intelligence to then find more opportunities and space on the far side than he's currently getting on his preferred side.

Claudius I am serious. It is not the end of the world and a combination of 2-3 players with proper coaching can get us through the season or at least till January.
