On a different note, I really like the look of this kid from Como, Jacobo Ramon. He's really good on the ball for a CB and can really ping a pass in addition to being tall and pretty mobile. I think I would rather go for a younger player for Saliba's backup than someone like Konsa at 60m.

samthegooner I like the profile too but based on everyone we've been linked with this summer - Bruno, Vini Jr, Konsa and even Tzolis to an extent - it's clear the club aren't interested in signing potential.

We're more willing to roll on immediate quality even if we're passing on longer term potential. That's definitely exciting for the upcoming season.

I also think the club rate Mosquera highly.

Rohit I think it's good as a club we could countenance going for this type of player. But ultimately he didn't want to come because we aren't able to pull these types of players or haven't demonstrated we can yet. Hopefully we have some other options and we probably are going to have pay a bit that's the market we are in.

Top 10 in the world players in their prime almost never leave destination clubs. If they do it's about money and pride. We saw an opening on both issues and made a plausible offer that forced Madrid to address them in a way they didn't want to and that will cost them dearly in their next round of renewals.
The important thing is for us to also be a destination club in this sense.
I find the idea that we've "been played" and should in some way be embarassed laughable. I see no significant downside to having tried to make this signing.

Only downside is on morale, players / fans getting excited for a generational transfer and then the let down. Hopefully we have a good alternative signing for the attack.

Have to say, I'm sceptical we'll bring anyone noteworthy if we fail with Vini. Who are we getting? Alvarez? Barcola? Yildiz? Willing to be proven wrong but not sure any of those players sufficiently solve our attacking issues.

Gonna have to hope for a Dowman break-out season because Saka needs a rest too.

Ray this is the issue and even Bruno G signing will be a bit of an anti-climax now. We got cock teased hard but it was always too good to be true.

We need to win CL’s to be even more credible as a club.

Don Pacifico I think we have to get a LW. I think people are projecting a lot of hopes on Tzolis being some sort of insane revelation but that seems very unlikely. This Vini thing was a good distraction but the reality is we need to be realistic and get someone better than Trossard now that he's gone, otherwise we've gone backwards in our attack.

Qwiss Exactly this. Unthinkable to go into next season being weaker in an area we were already clearly lacking in. We will be a (not massivley unlikely) lengthy Saka injury away from being fucked. Very worrying.

Off topic slightly but looks like Rodri is going to Barca. Wondering if this vini extension limited their capacity to go for Rodri. If I was a Madrid supporter I’d be frustrated with their backroom- almost feels more like a commercial decision from their end

There are also some rumors we have asked about Christian Romero. I absolutely despise him and think he's an absolute idiot at times. That being said, at the prices that have been mentioned (40m euros), I'm not completely opposed to him being the Saliba cover. He's great on the ball, has tons of EPL experience and when he's not seeing red, he's a solid defender. The issue is those periods of time where he goes full Argentina and gets completely lost in his passion - either resulting in him getting too aggressive and getting out of position or flying in for a ridiculous tackle. Part of me thinks he would be prone to far less of that in a functional setup like ours since we didn't see too many of those moments in the WC with Argentina. But he's also an idiot so he might not be fixable and the chances of us signing him from Spurs have to be near zero. I'd certainly like him at 40m euros far more than Konsa at 60m+ pounds though.

samthegooner we can't have Romero and Bruno in the same team, its a guaranteed red card. I also just hate his stupid face and think he's really overrated because of a combination of him going forward too much and making loads of wild last minute big tackles. He's the sort centre half I hate, the anti-Saliba.

Xcdude24 been thinking this too. I don't want Alvarez and Havertz, they both play deep and like to link up. Sometimes you need a proper off the shoulder striker.

Mirth N'Diaye's got the most successful dribbles in the league after Doku.

can't say I've ever watched Doku and thought "we need a player like that". N'Diaye is very hot and cold. If we'd gotten him instead of Tzolis or Noni I'd be ok with it but to come in and replace Martinelli as things stand now I'm not on board.

Bernard Woolley I've been opposed to any type of loan back agreement for Kroupi but if we get towards the end of the window and it doesn't look like there is a LW out there that will improve us, I could be convinced in offering Bournemouth a healthy but not ridiculous fee for Kroupi with the understanding he stays there this year and comes next summer. Anything sub 100m would be fine for me.

I see N'Diaye being listed as an alternative but personally I think that would be far too much overlap with Eze and Tzolis in terms of small space players without top end pace on the left. I'd be far more willing to give some serious minutes to Eze on the LW than pursue N'Diaye.
