I think Real were not planning on offering him more than they already offered him. They assumed he would eventually agree to it, but us coming into the picture (unexpectedly) with very good contract terms for him (way better than what Real were offering) sort of forced their hand. If Vini agrees to stay, he will end up making less money, but Real had to come up a little bit. And they are still well short of our offer.
Right now, i guess its a game of chicken. Did they come up enough to keep him, or will he stick to his desired package and decide to leave unless they match what he wants? My guess is that he will lower some of his demands to stay. 75% in that thought. Think we gave it a good go, but the one thing i think we did wrong was to just to the side until he 'decides' to accept Real's offer or not (unless thats what we told him we would do). Maybe we should have put an official bid in, even if it was less than Real expected (say, 100 million or so) to move things to their conclusion quicker.
