Yeah it's all these micro updates which are rubbish. Ornstein has laid out where we are in that Arsenal have an ambition and have talked about how we would attempt to approach it.

The situation between Madrid and Vinicius has not really altered the past year in terms of the standoff but the fact neither just walked away suggests both want to resolve where he remains there. There isn't a football offer from us because if it's a purely football informed decision he's going to stay at Madrid.

Now it's a case are either side serious about no compromise beyond posturing. The commentary on that process but all the *ITKs" is total rubbish for me

Like you say the terms haven't changed, but the situation still changes based on the fact that time has passed. With two years to go on the contract they could allow the standoff to continue and delay the decision, but now is the time to either agree on a contract or sell.

The first part of this sentence isn't true, and I'm not sure how the second part is relevant.
The first part isn't true because if Sunderland offered him these wages he still wouldn't entertain the offer. Just because money is relevant doesn't mean it's not a "football offer".

The second part isn't relevant, because... well, so what? Almost any of the players we've signed would've gone to Real Madrid if they in the same window gave the player the same offer we did, so not sure why this would say anything about this particular case.

On the football offer,I phrased it poorly perhaps. I meant he's not making this decision for football reasons if selling the you'll be the star of the project that's not really the factor in this discussion. The point about Sunderland is fair as well but then add long as your a top European side who could stump up the cash you'd be in with a chance. It's not anything specific to whatever our football offer would be. The bottom line that will move the dial. If we made a Durham "football offer" without the finance he's not coming because that's not what he's haggling work Madrid about. The football offer for Madrid will always trump ours as you say, so it's all about what will we pay. That's why it's further evidence that these ITK updates are meaningless.

Most clubs don't want to sell their good players. When they do they want to get paid enough that they can actually improve their team. (Generally they don't succeed, but that's the goal.)

Chelsea is primarily a contract trading operation, putting a coherent team on the field is a secondary consideration.

and reading absolute rubbish from people who have tangential information. an acquisition we started working on 3 years ago was announced in the press this month. sometimes deals just take forever to firm up. Vinny's deal especially has a ton of moving parts.

Newcastle can drag it out to save themselves face without us being much involved. Jaissle's appointment, which by the stories was because we're getting Guimarães, could have slowed things down as a matter of etiquette. Or maybe the new manager tanks the whole deal if Guimarães had issues with Howe that are now sorted.

RowJimmy Newcastle have mostly done a pretty good job of getting well paid. Isak and Tonali especially. It'll be interesting to see how this turns out but if they dig their heels on Bruno after Isak last summer I think it'll reflect badly on them more than us and players will think twice about going there. No one wants to go to a stepping stone club that wont let you take the next step.

Burnwinter it seemed like Howe and Bruno had an excellent relationship. Don't think that's part of it.

RowJimmy Munich are probably the best at bullying because they don't even bother to pay, they just get the best players from other clubs in their league on free transfers.

And Real who do this on a European wide scale.

I don't think this is right. Come to the champions of the best league, runners up in the CL, you'll be the man who puts us over the top, look at our squad, it has one hole that's precisely your shape. None of the other teams that could afford him could make that pitch.

Clubs that are "good in the transfer market" come in two kinds.
Brighton etc are water treaders. They do great business, but there's no path out of 8th place.
City are bullies. When they need something they pay well above what anyone else can afford. And they sell easily and happily because they will just go out and overpay for the next thing. United worked this way under Ferguson. Munich are probably the best at bullying because they don't even bother to pay, they just get the best players from other clubs in their league on free transfers.
Actually improving your squad via the transfer market without just chucking money into it is incredibly hard.

RowJimmy I'd argue the archetype is 2017-2023 Liverpool - maybe it is replicable and may be not, but if anyone should be the archetype, it's them. Outsized sales of Coutinho and more recently Diaz; very high hit rates on high-quality transfers at moderate prices like Salah, Mane, Fabinho, Jota, Diaz, Szobo, Gravenberch, etc. Of course, they had their transfer failures like Keita and Nunez as well but high hit rate overall; and intelligent superstar signings in Van Dijk and Allisson. It was a great combination that brought them 2 league and 1 CL title. One could argue we have been equally good in bringing in Gabriel, Saliba, White, Calafiori, Zubi, etc. at decent prices and our few failures have been Madueke, Eze (maybe too early to tell), etc., but I'd argue this is the template.
