I like Barcola a lot but Vini tops him. Talent wise and importantly profile wise. Vini is the type of player to elevate the club both in a playing and commercial sense.

EDIT: I am just wondering how Vinicius Jr fits in the larger scheme of things. At 26 he has won it all and i have to wonder what would his motivation be going forward. We forget how much pressure and scrutiny a large fee and wages can bring. Declan was a unicorn transfer in the sense how seamlessly he fit in and no one talks about his fee anymore. More importantly is Vini going to comfortable working on Arteta's rigid system? How are players like Rice and Saka going to react to his wages during their renewals. On paper he is still more of certainty in terms of impact but then i am very sure Barcola is ALSO going to be a impactful player for us.

Meatwad exactly. People were happy to write off Rogers as too expensive but Barcola is the same age, would cost more and is less productive in a worse league.

A report will come out from Madrid about Vini accepting a new deal and we'll all have to accept it. Vini is not attainable.

Listening to the Arsecast today and they chatted about the story. To me it sounded like I had read it in that Arsenal see an opportunity that should the negotiations break down we have have agreed internally what our offer could be. But nobody knows what that is and we don't know whether it would be acceptable to either the player or club. Added to that we have not contacted Madrid and Vini wants to stay and Madrid want to keep him. So really seems like a story on not much right now we have a plan what we could do but reliant on so many variables it doesn't seem plausible. I really hope we are progressing other plans.

Pictures on Arsenal.com include Kai, Viktor and Piero, who played last games June 29 and 30. Brazil's last game was July 5 - three weeks ago yesterday. So the Brazilians could be reporting today.

I think he'll extend with them, but it sounds like we've been waiting for this situation to escalate for a long time. That obviously entails being in contact with his people informally to get a lay of the land. I reckon preparations for a potential transfer are much more further along than what has been let on.

I'm not saying this because he is linked to us but if anything he needs to leave. He is no longer the top dog at Real Madrid, that is Mbappe and Mbappe will be the shining star of that club going forward and he has just come off two 40+ goal seasons for the club so justifiably so.

Vini Jr has won everything with Real Madrid as well, if he wants to prove himself somewhere else and become top dog he should be looking to move.

JazzG I don't think that rings true if you're at a club where you think you could win a lot you would stay there. The other consideration would be financial but that wouldn't really work because I doubt many clubs can offer more in that sense.

If Arsenal have briefed Ornstein et al about this it can only be because they think having it become a public discussion increases pressure on both sets of counterparties to make a decision.

RowJimmy I mean the only thing that's been briefed is Arsenal internally have agreed an approach that would follow if things break down. I don't think it really adds pressure because I doubt we would be offering more then Madrid would be in wages so it's not like there is something better in what he has to gain.

awooga83 He wants to be the main man at Real Madrid and that is no longer the case, has been evident since Mbappe joined something has been off with him hence why he has been running his contract down

awooga83 I saw a tweet earlier which actually shows it is a massive deal. If he earns £20m a year from sponsorships, he could potentially keep all of that with us and £10m if he was with R.Madrid. So it would make it easier to match whatever kind of financial deal he is looking for.

Big Willie Champ I think it's incredibly unfair to compare Saka, who has a wonderful hard-working low-profile attitude, to Vini, who has a horrible clownish high-profile distracting attitude.

If you think his problem is being dark-skinned in Spain you are in for a very unpleasant surprise if/when we sign him.

I agree he is the 'type' of player we need on this side, in terms of his technical attributes, but I would really prefer it if we could resolve that situation without the drama.

I mean if Saka has that same "being dark skinned in..." problem in England despite being hard working and low profile then it stands to reason Vinicius will have even the same and then some given how high profile he is.

My point being rather than questioning whether Vinicius is not hard working or not (I don't agree that he isnt) but that whether in Spain or England, black players will get treated more harshly by the public and media for doing the same thing whiter players do. You've seen the treatment Saka gets, the treatment Sterling used to get, and these are one of Englands best players at each player's respective primes.

Put it this way, imagine he was playing in Spain and doing the same things Suarez doing? They'd probably lock him up in prison.
