Vik was our top scorer, but there's not a lot of big goals in there, sorry. He still has his qualities and I think he would be better for us next season, but Alvarez is a better fit for a team that needs elite technical quality to play in tight spaces.

I think those who were quick to pat the club on the back for not "overpaying" for Rogers will quickly change their minds once the season starts and we find ourselves having to rely on substandard options on the left wing.

Sicario2 We didn't mess around, we decided what he was worth and when Villa demanded more we walked away and let Chelsea have him. Clearly some kind of backroom deal has done with Chelsea as Villa are taking their surplus players and that is fine, we don't need to get involved in that kind of nonsense.

Certain players you pay over the odds and buy no matter what, we did that with Declan Rice. Morgan Rogers is not someone you buy no matter what.

JazzG All well and good not to overpay to get your first choice, as long as you have quality alternatives and/or an already strong attack. We don't seem to have either of those at the moment.

Always best to save judgement until the end of the window but I do agree so far this window is a bit disappointing but important in these high value transfers to keep your composure.

Tzolis looks like he’s worth giving decent game time too.

That said I would like a more powerful runner or effective carrier out there. Diomande and Barcola aside I’d be tempted by Godts or even Rashford

Tactics All it suggests is that he was the most expensive option on the market and we weren't interested in paying those kind of sums. The rest feels like conjecture to me. There were rumours we tried for Nico Paz before Morgan but he had his heart set on staying with Como. We seem to have spent a lot of time on Yildiz too but Juventus refused to budge.

If Kvaratshkelia had been available for Morgan money I believe we would have paid in a heartbeat, probably for Doué too. We simply didn't think he was worth it.

I think Endrick and probably one of Camavinga/Tchouameniwill leave R.Madrid. Endrick is someone we should be following very closely

Same thing was said about Eze, but meanwhile Rogers is doing the rounds confidently declaring his destiny is in midfield. We were after Rogers for his versatility and durability if anything—what other elite traits has he really got?—and I reckon we would've seen him at left 8 more often than we have Trossard.

Burnwinter @Tactics I think the #1 target idea is throwing fans off. I believe we viewed “Morgan Rogers at 80m” as great value and our #1 target. However, I think “Morgan Rogers at 100m plus” dilutes his value and caused us real hesitation. Increase that to 117m and I could see why we said thanks but no thanks, we can likely do better at that amount and moved on.
