Qwiss I agree but I think he will be soon. Been watching a lot of highlight reels of him recently and there is something about him, great press resistance, really good at moving the ball as well. Not surprised Chelsea are trying to sneak in ahead of others to get him.

Don't want to sound like Eeyore, but it would astonish me if Scott survived two seasons working for Arteta without incurring a serious knee injury. We'd be signing about two thirds of a fully available player there.

TambourineMan I think this is closer to what we will end up with and personally I think it's a very good summer. I was listening to Clive on the ArsenalVision podcast and he made a good point that with Saka being a creative fulcrum on the right, he believes Arteta wants the LW to essentially be a second striker and more of a finisher. Alvarez or Kroupi would fit that to a tee.

Do you believe it? Day one Rice goes down because after all he's already destroyed. Scott then gets a run and goes down with another ligament or meniscus issue.

We've been here before. The modern sport wrecks players and we are playing its most modern form. Durability matters as much as the body count when it comes to depth. If it didn't then we'd count White and Timber as one and a bit right backs. Pragmatically we will need to treat the two as a fraction of one and then get lucky after that.

Burnwinter Thing is how many injuries can you prepare for? Man City lost the plot when Rodri went down, same happened to Liverpool when they lost Van Dijk a few years back.

Qwiss I can see Scott becoming a No.6 whereas MLS is much more suited as a 8. I agree the price is steep but I'd much rather overpay for a 22 year old than 28/29, especially if our scouts and data team rate the player.

Qwiss 100%, and the main reason why I wanted an 'older' CM to act as a placeholder for MLS. I have full faith that he can be one of the best in the world and we need to build him into that over the next few seasons.

Qwiss Fully agree. The only thing I don't like about the Bruno deal is the price - feels like a lot of high-quality midfielders are around these days. If we end up paying 75-80M, then why were we not in for Fernandes at 85M, who has potentially a higher ceiling and will end up being a core part of our MF for many years. I'd like to see us find a slightly more cost efficient solution here and ensure that we can pay whatever we need to for an elite forward (of which we have a grand total of zero currently in light of Saka's consistent injury troubles).

Kel Varnsen I just think that we need to adjust our thinking from having 3 first team midfielders to having closer to 5-6 first team midfielders with the demands the modern game puts on bodies. Having a rotation of Guimaraes, MLS, Zubimendi, Rice for two midfield spots is a must right now, especially with Rice running in the red for the majority of two full seasons now. I don't see the signing of Guimaraes as blocking MLS but that will also be dependent on Arteta maturing a bit as a manager and trusting rotation more.

I said the same thing when we signed Calafiori but the fact is Ricky has been injured half the time. Scott's had an MCL and a meniscus tear playing for Bournemouth. Tell me Arteta's not going to grind this kid's knees down to dog kibble if he joins us.

Why pay the same for a 22 year you hope will eventually be as good as Guimarhaes when you can just sign the finished product now? Where was the same attitude to buying young for Rogers, who is far more established and proven than Scott.

Looks Scott is a good player but I don't see a place for him in this team now. The whole point of getting Bruno is that he would be ready to go day 1 with Rice out and he wouldn't need a season or 2 to be ready. If you were grabbing him cheap then yeah it'd be worth it but he's going to cost £80m plus. If that's where we valued Rogers then we must value Scott quite a bit below that as he's not close to Rogers level yet.

samthegooner interesting. Haven't listened to that episode yet but looking at Rogers as our LW signing, that was the only way I could make it make sense. I'm just not personally very keen on the idea, particularly given Saka may be broken and when fit, gets double/triple marked.

samthegooner I don't see it as blocking MLS either, but more capital efficiency in a position with more recruitment options in order to free up capital for re-allocation towards positions with fewer options (forward positions). Fully agree that we need a 5-man rotation for midfield with varied strengths and skillsets. Bruno G fits the bill on that count but is not a good use of capital in my view. I'd rather be able to pay an additional 10M for someone like Kroupi.

Don Pacifico I agree with this and it's the aspect that I'm most concerned about in transfers. Any sense that Saka or other players will just step up to the level is a bad plan. Hopefully they do but we should be looking at the last 18 months and working on that being the norm. We also need to up our technical level so we should be looking to get a couple of players of that type especially given we lost Trossard. For now the moves we've been linked with don't reassure me.

Bernard Woolley I agree but everything we are reading is that Kroupi isn't getting sold by Bournemouth and if that's true, we probably know it too.

samthegooner Too early to say re: Kroupi. If not him, then some other high quality forward like Diomande and if not now, then in the winter or next summer. Either way, unrestrained spending has its own consequences and hence my focus on being capital efficient in a part of the pitch where more options seem to be available.

RowJimmy I don't really understand this logic personally unless it's for a real cut rate deal. I want players that are going to help us now if we are going to be spending big. I don't understand why either party would entertain a deal with a loan back that would suit both Arsenal and Bournemouth. If I'm Bournemouth, I'd want him to stay and then sell him for big $$$ next summer. If I'm Arsenal, the only way I entertain a loan back is if I am getting him for under market rates. So in that scenario, the only reason Bournemouth would do it is if they were worried he might be a flash in the pan or that he might get injured and want to lock in the sale. Everything we have heard from them is that they are not going to sell Kroupi this summer and would only think about selling him next summer. I just don't see it happening.

I've got a feeling the rare occasions those kinds of deals happen it's because a top young player at some lesser club is obsessed with locking in a move, and the bigger destination club is keen on the player and the move but has squad issues. Doesn't seem on the cards at all.
