banduan In my opinion Grealish cost what he did because he was arguably the best player in England the year before his move (on reputation and media opinion at least) and his status at the time was above what Rogers's is today. Grealish's reputation in the English game was similar to that of Rice when he moved to us. These guys (Grealish, Rice) were viewed as top tier marquee players, Rogers and Anderson now are not what Grealish and Rice were when they moved for £100m+.

I'd say reputationally they were closer to Sancho who moved that same summer for £73m. i.e. players who were on the cusp and good enough to help you win today but not bona-fide media darlings and superstar's like Rice and Grealish were at the time of their moves.

It actually makes more sense than that since house prices have increased much more than people's income. Meanwhile, player prices are driven by the sky rocketing of the clubs' revenue. If anything, we should be angry at the club (and others) for the obscene amount of money they pull in. But considering that this happens, it makes sense that buying players are the biggest cost.

TambourineMan talk about overhyped. 6 goals, 12 assists the year before he left Villa. Which was well behind Kane, Rashford, Son, Bruno, etc Even Bamford out g/aed him. And its not like he really offered a lot else. The press has always loved Grealish and it really did help his career.

Seeing links to Nico Williams again. He seems highly rated by everyone but the cold hard stats show that he is an injury prone player who has never scored more than 6 league goals. I am not sure he is worth the kind of money we would have to pay for him.

Gurgen His touch is excellent and he goes past players by ease but I'm pretty sure he's legally retarded. Such scandalously poor decision-making. His final ball is worse than Madueke's. In retrospect I can see what Arteta liked in Noni because it's on full display here too.

Gurgen No way. I was a huge fan two years ago but he has regressed since then both physically and performance wise. Never really kicked on from that breakout season. Also saw someone post on a different thread that his salary is 500k per week?? No, thank you to that. Diomande or Kroupi for me please.

His decision making in the WC final was dreadful, assist aside. Very lackadaisical, doesn't seem like a serious character to me.

lorddulaarsenal not massively sold on Barcola but would go with it but i think if we cant get a significant upgrade on the wings , would just go with what we got..

Personally think upgrading the central areas should be the priority, raise the technical leveling and creativity in CF and mifield possibly and Martinelli might actually be good again.. also have no faith that we would get a decent fee for him

Pepe LeFrits it's funny as that move he did where he cut inside the Argentinian was quality and what he's capable of but literally the next action so stupid and unnecessary when you've got yourself in. He looked promising younger with a view hopefully he could progress but it's not happend. Similar to Madueke it's why I didn't feel that was a worthwhile as he's exactly the same type of failing in what he does in the final third.

I think it would be a good idea to finish this one quickly. If he's gonna come in it'll be crucial to get it done before the preseason starts.

I like Scott a lot but feel like Bruno is a better fit right now while our title window is wide open. He’s older and won’t have much resale value but he brings pretty much the entire package Scott has with a little more physical robustness and experience. I also think he can be a better Rice replacement when we need to rest him. But I don’t think Scott is a huge step down and they have similar strengths in terms of press resistance, passing under pressure and the ability to get forward and pop up with goals. All of those strengths would be great fits in our current midfield.
