MistaT Most of our team is going to be absolutely shattered after this season and the World Cup.

Rice came back a shell of himself last summer and took nearly a month to regain form. I would imagine we’ll have ~ 7 players facing a similar challenge this year in Timber, Gabriel, Rice, Zubi, Saka and Havertz….

So for me summer signings should actually be considered with a short term view as well as long term.

Yeah. Building a team has changed. A few years ago it was about getting the best starting line up possible so you could dominate every game. Which is possible if you play infrequently. So agree we shouldn’t cut team a lot and invest strategically, eg left wing. Next season, if City, Pool etc don’t strengthen, they’ll struggle even more. He's pretty much admitted it by going out and signing 2 key players in January.

I think Pep is just full of shit. He moaned about the size of his squad 6 months after spending 200 million on players in the January window. He just wants people to feel sorry for him while he's perched on his huge pile of money like a Tolkien dragon.

I think we’ll raise funds and release a fair chunk of wages by selling White, Myles and Jesus this summer. We may see Trossard depart too.

Created plenty of scope to bring in a few additions.

This game has clarified what I would like to see. More carrying ability

Striker - a better integrator who can create his own shots. only one i like at this point

Claudius the one thing I would say Claud is that I don't think this is a new thing. At the very least, our lack of ball carriers was evident last summer.

Claudius I mostly agree but I think another technically elite 8 cum 10 is a problem to be addressed also, as Odegaard is the only one we have. Eze and Nwaneri are more pure 10s and I don't think Arteta is fully onboard with Eze as a full-time 10.

I think another versatile 8ish could be added as Arteta clearly doesn't trust Norgaard, so Rice could rotate at 6 a bit more often. I don't think Tonali is it though, too similar to Rice and Merino. Should be someone silkier.

Its interesting there are no really strong rumours yet. Last year Zubi was fairly nailed on as our main target by now. Rice 2 years earlier the same.

Qwiss It feels like we had a clear idea of what we wanted, and brought in Rice and Zubimendi with a clear vision for where they would fit in to that.

The summer should have been the end point for what we were building towards in terms of having all the key pieces Arteta wanted in place. I'm not sure I have an idea, or whether the club do, about what needs done next with this team. There are as many areas for improvement just now as there have been in the last few years, and we're fully in Arteta's mould at this point.

Don Pacifico fair. I thought Calafiori would help, but he needs to nail down his spot. And Saka has gone backwards. Hopefully, he can rest for 2+ weeks now through the internationals and FA Cup game.

Tam yeah does seem like we are a little less sure but then it could just be Berta running things a little quieter either. Or maybe he's just going to play the market in the summer depending on whats available. I'd be surprised if he doesn't have some irons in the fire though. If we are after Alvarez for instance there is no way Berta hasn't spoken to him.

My sense is this is his MO. It's a complete opposite to Edu who would basically do Arteta's bidding and whilst I have time for that approach in terms of smarter deals, I don't think we're at the stage yet where we can take loads of punts on market opportunities. For one, it's not helped our forward line where we look rather underpowered.

lorddulaarsenal we've been linked with Tonali, Gordon and Livramento in recent weeks. Makes me think we are definitely talking to Newcastle about someone.

Don Pacifico I think this summer will be the first one we can really accredit to Berta. I don't think he had full control last year, think Arteta wanted Madueke and one of Sesko or Gyok, Berta went for Gyok (not wrong there BTW). Apart from that our attack is all Edu, we need Berta out there finding us an X factor now.

Qwiss you forget Eze, who was the call from Arteta.
Credit to Berta for approving the signing though. It was not the most dire need in the team, but it has given us an extra bit of magic, especially with Odegaard rarely fully healthy

Qwiss honestly, I don't know how much Madueke was an Arteta led signing. Not saying he didn't sign off on it but I haven't seen anything to suggest it was Arteta-led; we weren't linked to him at all until we signed him, felt very much like a market opportunity to me.

Similarly, we weren't seriously linked to Gyokeres until Berta came in. The signing makes sense in terms of the market opportunity but I never made sense in terms of being a poor fit for our team.

Claudius yeah I think going out and getting the wishlist was Bertas main role last summer. This year will be more deals he's been in on from start to finish. I've said before I think we'll start seeing more misses but we need a big hit. Mostly are signings have been good to ok rather than brilliant to flop. I think we've reached a point where we need to gamble a bit more.

I think Gyokeres was a better fit for this season than Sesko. He's grabbed a few goals but in terms of his all round game he's still incredibly raw.

That could be used to describe both players. The difference being Sesko is 22 and Gyokeres is 27.

the rumours at the time were that Arteta wanted Sesko and Berta pushed for Gyok, especially when the asking prices and player interest were factored in. But who knows how much of that is true
