Meatwad you're being sarcastic but you're completely right. Saka's job has become wrestling and getting kicked just to dig out a cross or win a corner. He gets no protection at all, no support. Nobody covers him. He has to play like a rushing qb.

Madueke is a cutback merchant, but we literally never flood the box. Our strikers do not run across defenders, and our midfield has to cover for our centerback-fullbacks who spend more time in the opposition's 6 than our strikers.

Whatever our players' various weaknesses, they are all much more capable than this system allows.

I don't understand why everyone else is expected to battle, track back hold their position perfectly and be a duel monster but Jesus gets to float around not pressing and pulling out of duels and all for no reward in terms of goals.

premier league winners usually have an elite level attacking talent. liverpool had salah (he falls off and they fall off), man citeh have haaland. teams with our level of mediocrity in attack (everyone else) are usually struggling for consistency.

imagine if we didn't waste our money on madueke this summer and instead had that money available to buy semenyo this winter? arteta and berta have to answer for signing a bunch of players who are at best "depth", ideally some of our signings would have turned existing starters into depth.

Meatwad we were talking about it in other threads, but winning the title playing the way we do would be out of step with history. having so few players in the top 20 goalscorers, relying entirely on defense and set pieces to dig out results - even Jose's title winning teams weren't this negative. he knew enough to have at least 2-3 razor sharp players to do the business in the final third.

Awful but a result that's been coming for a long time we've been pretty poor in the league but sneaking through and not learning the lessons. We are team that has massive failings in attack and they come about from how we play and that's all down too Arteta. A manager focused on trying to minimise errors and restricting any attacking play that night have risk which means we play against set teams that know what we will do and makes everything marginal and can lead to days like today.

I felt I didn't know if this team could get over the line which was the big unknown for me but the way we played today it looks like we are probably going to collapse again, this doesn't look like a team that believes it's going to win the title.

Part of our poor 2nd half was definitely fatigue, part of it was the sheer volume of changes we made which disjointed the structure, united might have got wonder-goals but we created fuck all in open play

Yeah. Today was kind of a "shit happens" game (modulo the weird quadruple sub). It just reinforces me being pissed about sabotaging the Forest game, though.

daredevil some of these theories make no sense. We got killed by two wonder strikes, but the United goals as a whole aren’t surprising. I did say before the game that we are perfect targets for their counter attacking ball.

Our issue was an unbelievable sloppiness on the ball, even with limited pressure. And it cost us at both ends.

The third United goal felt inevitable after we'd equalised and then Rice dithered on the ball like a fuckwit to waste away momentum and then Madueke shinned it out for a goal kick from a promising position.

After their equaliser, the game felt like a retread of the Southampton game from 2023. All nerves from players and the coach.

and it’s naught to do with rest/rotation. we play with no urgency or threat and the fabelled “extra gears” we’ve been hoping for don’t seem to exist.

His teams were technical but tbf to arteta it wasn't groundhog day like wengers teams were for a better part of 5-7 years when we loaded up with our technical midgets, got 60-70% possession to be countered and bullied and lose season after season

Qwiss good point, I was putting it down entirely to Arteta's anxiety being in his head. Still think that's the primary factor, though.
