Not to be pedantic but it’s not instinctive. We don’t drop back accidentally - it’s all by design and it’s horrible. It doesn’t matter if it’s Wolves, Port Vale or Man Utd, we’ve done the same thing each time and it’s not out of fear imo.

Mirth no the falling back is by design but the turtling up is instinctive. Players stop trying to beat the press and just hoof it. Still plenty of fault at Arteta's feet though because this has gone on since forever under him and not been addressed.

Exactly, this is a team whose signature is supposed to be control. But as soon as we come under a bit of mental pressure, we surrender it all.

Glad for the break this week to freshen us up and clean this out of the system. When does Big Gabriel return again?

Most of the players were rested mid week and we put in our worst performance to date. I'm not convinced more time off is better.

Just on my way back been the game.What a terrible match. Obviously happy to get away with it but the way we tried to play out that final 10 minutes was so cowardly it was very frustrating and was the only way wolves were going to have a chance to nick something. To oktay like that at home to hang on against one of the poorest teams in the league at home that's not a team that's going to win the league with that mentality. We can change but it's got to be quick because to me that was a look at the teams character and I think it's not strong enough to win the big trophies if that's what we are made of in a game at home to wolves.

flobaba we’ve done the same thing a bunch of times this season. Take a lead/get back into a game and then say here, have the ball for the next 15 minutes.

It’s horrific and not something title winning teams do so routinely.

Sounds like it was a good thing I missed this match! Clear our confidence has taken a hit but the injuries are becoming a fucking joke man, even with our depth we are being stretched. Important just to get the win and get the focus back

This game was literally dejavu of Arsenal Wolves in 2022-2023 when our former number 9 (Laca) came off the bench and scored an injury time winner.

At this stage is all about the win’s. We will look better and fresher against Everton.

Come on Palace and West Ham!

SimplyThePest Nah, us as fan base have a responsibility of not losing it just because we struggled today. Not everyone has the heart of a title race or have been there, done that x 3 times albeit 20-25 years ago.

I know we all got PTSD from the last seasons but we got a much better squad this season. Bringing on Jesus today being a prime example.

Sicario2 the way we approached the game against one of the most awful sides to grace the league is why people doubt the team has enough in its character. It looked when it got tough we were trying to hang on and that's not what teams going for titles do against this kind of opposition at home.. The character looks too brittle.

Sicario2 what do you mean by having the heart for a title race? We are strictly observers, have no control over the team’s efforts and will have to eat whatever is served up to us in the end, whether we like it or not.

At this point, we look dusted and like it’s only a matter of time before we are reeled in by the chasing back.

awooga83 the worst team in the league had absolutely nothing to lose, was like a free hit for them and put 10 men behind the ball. We also played in Belgium away on Wed night and had an intense last couple of weeks. Look at the results of teams post CL/Europe and usually it’s not great.

This is football not fifa. We never going to batter them 5-0.

If we look sluggish v Everton then you may have a point.

SimplyThePest I’m just saying ppl panicking and forgetting what it’s like to win a title and letting recency bias affect their judgement. Couple of weeks ago most ppl on here were confident we would win the league. We’ve won 3 out of the last 4. What’s the problem?

Being six points behind City by end of Jan would now be less surprising than extending our lead. Lot of glum faces after the match tonight because the fans can sense the team may have run out of ideas already.

Dom I agree I don't feel I came away from a win just a really big reality check that things are not looking good and we aren't even halfway through the season.

Dom I'm not going to pretend we look good at the moment. But it was also only a couple of weeks ago that we put in stellar performances against Spurs and Bayern. See no reason why we can't turn it around.

Pre-Chelsea we were boasting that we could be so good that teams just don't bother against us as it would be a waste of time.

After that awful performance, though, and the subsequent reality checks like you say, Everton and Villa are going to be right at us and we don't look physically and athletically imposing any more.

Lukazan feeling sorry for them was my first thought over relief at the win when we scored. We didn’t really deserve 3 points from that game.

The worst team in the league, the team with the potential to be the worst in Premier League history, came and almost took a point from us. And we needed a flukey goal to kick things off.

Arteta has done well to keep us on top and winning games so far this season but there is something deeply rotten about how we are setting up.

I’m fed up of excuses around players needing time and settling in periods.

Sicario2 I don't expect us to batter them I don't expect us to hang on against them at home and allow them to take the initiative that's cowardly. They had nothing to lose in plenty of other games. We've been playing poor fora number of games 2 points from 9 away we've got to be much better away.
