Qwiss I get what you’re saying, but to me it’s about using him in the most effective way. He’d thrive infront of our defensive foundation. He is one of very few players in world football who is able to hurt any team at any moment. He has real star quality which we need more of.

USArsenal You could see in the summer how Martinelli is viewed: we'll cash in for the right offer but not for the wrong one. One trouble is his combination of traits is sorta made for England.

lorddulaarsenal did you watch City vs Liverpool yesterday? See how Salah left Bradley to fend for himself against Doku? That's the sort of thing you'd get from Leao except instead of Salahs 30 goals a season you'd get 8-9 absolutely bangers each season. He's the sort of player you'd love if you were Newcastle but not for a team that requires the consistency it takes to win a PL title these days. In reality he doesn't really offer any more than Trossard.

I don't think we are really going to go for anyone in January unless there's a market opportunity like Yildiz or Bouaddi. Yildiz does seem like he could potentially move as early as January since he hasn't extended his contract and Juve will always sell for a price. He's one of the few talents out there where I would do whatever we need to in order to bring him in. I think he could play a variety of roles in our setup, with left wing being the easiest fit but could also see him doing a job as a false 9. But if I had to bet on it, I doubt we do anything in January.

I suspect Martinelli is on the market based on summer, but he can't possibly be keen to leave based on circumstances. And if he doesn't leave, I doubt we bring in Yıldız. I think Yıldız has to be a target, if he's at all willing to move then he'll be playing for one of our rivals if we don't get him.

Unless we have a massive (knock on wood) injury crisis starting in December, the chances of us doing January business is low. Like Sam said, i would not mind seeing someone like Yildiz brought in for the right "January" price, but otherwise, we're pretty stocked, and we don't need stop-gap players.

Chelsea have been after Yildiz for a while , I fear they will be ahead of us in that chase. They've got the finances to make a big offer to him as well

Yeah, but if we went for him and Chelsea went for him, which would be choose? A complete team that is looking to add real quality, or a team that stockpiles younger players in the hope that they turn into something? (rhetorical question of course). Not sure Chelsea will go after him in January though. Maybe its the right time for us to give it a go... Though i doubt we will.

With Berta and the new scout from Napoli that we just signed, I think we are positioning ourselves well to be able to negotiate with Juventus if Yildiz were to leave. I also wonder if another advantage we will have over Chelsea is that we seem to be open to paying higher wages at the moment, as Chelsea has a pretty rigid wage structure to support their youth policy. For me, Yildiz would be the replacement for Trossard/Jesus as a "jack-of-all-trades" attacker who we can fit into multiple positions. I do wonder if we might have too many of those profiles though with Eze, Nwaneri, Saka all being versatile wingers/attacking midfielders with a lack of explosive pace. One aspect of our team building that I am hoping we focus on is adding one more pacy attacker since we saw this weekend that with injuries to Gyokeres, Martinelli and Madueke, our attack completely lacks pace.

I do like these links to young talents with world class potential. I've said all summer that my dream for our next two windows is to focus on 2-3 high potential young players and maybe one world class addition. Yildiz is somewhere in the middle of those two categories in my mind but I feel like he could be very close to world class by the summer. If it were me, I'd go for Yildiz, Semenyo and Bouaddi this summer and let Jesus, Trossard and Martinelli move on. But this is all conjecture since this is the first time in the last 10-15 years that I just don't feel like we really have any current holes in the squad and I'd be fine if we just stood pat for now. To future proof this summer, we should be moving for some younger talents though.

I think it's a great time to buy talent too. We already have a first team that is good enough and experienced enough to win. What we need is players who can be integrated into the XI over in the next couple of years, to avoid a difficult transition like the one Liverpool is facing right now or the one United have been stuck in for a decade.

We already have Ethan, Myles, Dowman and Mosquera, and you have to think there's at least one, maybe two future key players in that group in a worst case scenario. We could use a few more though to hedge the bets a little.

Klaus I think that needs to be gradual. If Martinelli or Trossard go next summer for instance then you can get a young replacement like Yidliz. We are already struggling to find game time for Myles and Ethan.

Qwiss Yeah I'm working from the assumption that we'll lose a few guys in the summer to be honest. I think at least two of Trossard, Martinelli, Jesus and Havertz will be gone for instance, and it wouldn't surprise me if Ethan was pushing for a year-long loan either.
