Burnwinter Yep I have been obsessed with Alvarez for the last 12-18 months as he would bring something that we still desperately need and that is more elite ball striking. You simply cannot leave this man an inch of space from anywhere within 30 yards of the net and that includes some crazy angles. We don't have a player like that. He's also a very good presser who works hard off the ball, is good at involving other players and understands the league.
Now I will say that the last few months have given me a little hesitation. You simply cannot ignore his decrease in production this season (7g/3a in 21 league matches) after he looked so good last year (17g/4a in 37 league matches). That being said, he was one of the best players I have seen us play this year and was absolutely everywhere for Atletico in our match. We clearly dominated them but he still managed to be a very threatening player for most of the match and one of those who I did not want to see getting a clean shot at net at any point.
His production this year has pushed me away from "Sign this man at all costs" to more of a "I believe but there may be a little more risk than I previously thought" position but I still think he would be a great Jesus replacement for us and another versatile attacker we could find plenty of roles for. I think if I had to rank the attackers I want in the summer, it's Yildiz and then probably Alvarez.
