Five points off Liverpool already with Newcastle away next week. Nothing we’ve shown suggests we’ll go to St James’ Park, take the game to them and win. Feels like a 0–0/1–1 slog or a 1–0 loss. Liverpool will likely win the day before, so we could kick off 8 adrift, and I don’t have much faith in Arteta getting anything out of Howe.

Question is - would 7/8 point be too much to overturn? Liverpool don’t look likely to drop many, and we haven’t shown we can capitalise when they do. They’ve been short of their best yet keep winning. Don't get me wrong, Liverpool will drop points, but not enough for us to catch them unless we’re near-perfect from here and I don’t think we can be that team - we will draw too many with this style we're playing, so I don’t see us making up 7/8 points.

Slot is a better manager than Arteta and it's showing.

Although Trossard was fine, we lacked a bit of individual ability to break through their lines for much of the game. Really strange that Eze didn't start.

In the past few seasons, even when we've won against City, we have been either at best equal possession/football-wise or even being completely dominated and have just had to rely on set-pieces and counters. Yesterday was pretty much the first time we really dominated City ourselves. I know them taking the early lead played a little into it and it's not quite the same City team as it was a few years ago, but it's a step in the right direction and shows how strong we are even with a couple of key players out/just returning.

I really hope Arteta learns from the second half and starts going for it like that from the start of games. This squad really has the tools to kill off most teams in the first 30 minutes a la the Invincibles. After going 2 or 3 up, I'd be happy to let Arteta enjoy himself and bring on 5 extra defenders to see the games out. I'm worried he's too stubborn for that though.

Tam to Germany/Munich, yep a couple of times. This was first time witnessing Oktoberfest though. A friend of mine flew out here to hang out as he hadn't seen me since my heart farted. We shared a table in the basement (Ned Kelly's), with a couple of English fellas, some Crazy Indian dude who called himself a "gooner, not a gunner", and spent the afternoon/ evening cursing out every single Man City fan at the bar who looked his way, and cursing out Pep and Haaland every time they were shown on the telly. His chubby Austrian buddy was similarly exuberant, in an overly friendly way, a few too many gratuitous mug clinks and "Prosts!!", and high fives and even offering to kiss me at one point. An offer which I quite firmly but politely declined.

All in all a decent night. Last minute equalizer from my boy Martinelli made it even better.

Oh I have, it's just how he just made sure to emphasize it at every opportunity that was amusing. I think he thought the delineation made him hardcore or ultra or something like that.

One thing about us and how teams play against us we often talk about being dominant in many aspects. But I do think that many teams allow for that balance because they don't really fear our attack on balance it feels a risk worth taking because at it stands we struggle to punish teams when we have that balance. Whereas for all Liverpool's weakness most teams probably feel if they try and sit that's a team that's proven they can score and likely multiple goals.

I think it's why almost all teams choose to approach us I'm that manner because so far we haven't been able to show a ruthless attack to shake them out of that approach and it has been pretty successful against us.
