What's amazing about United's business since Amorim arrived is that the leftback and the striker are arguably the two most important players in his formation, and what did they do? They went and got Dorgu in January, who wouldn't start for the other 19 Premier League clubs, and an overpriced Sesko in the summer who is a second striker and not a classic 9.

Basically Amorim needed Nuno Mendes and Viktor Gyökeres, and instead he got a pile of dog poo and a beanpole who does his best work outside the box. I don't get it haha. Is his comment about how "you have no idea what happened during these months" referring to being overruled by the club on these signings? Because there's literally no way he asked for these guys even if he's not gonna come out and say so publicly. I doubt he asked for Mbeumo too, because his system doesn't employ wingers. Cunha is the only signing they've made that theoretically fits his idea of playing, but United still needed a better profile, someone already established at the top with the mentality to go for it.

Almost feel sorry for him. Amorim seems like a decent guy, he is just a bit too stubborn and honest (gives the press everything on his mind as if he uses these sessions for therapy).

Remember the whole Ashworth Saga? They decided to keep ETH based on the fact that they needed stability and the rebuild was going to take years.

Amorim was floated as an ETH replacement at the end of the season and Ashworth disagreed stating that the current squad wasn’t compatible and that they weren’t ready for an ideologue and said if they were adamant about replacing him, they should be looking at several other candidates. Ratcliffe then decided he knew more about football and hired Amorim and sacked Ashworth straight after as he didn’t agree with him.

Everyone piled in on Ashworth because one of several candidates he preferred to Amorim was Southgate and that allowed Ratcliffe to control the narrative that Ashworth didn’t know what he was talking about regarding football cos how can you have someone like that on a shortlist. Without any of the nuance of the conversations regarding where they are and what they need now. Ashworths unease about Amorims experience and style were dismissed as not being forward thinking enough. It’s delicious to see them getting exactly what they deserve.

They guy who understands football stood out so much they taught their was something wrong with him and fired him almost immediately.
