Califiori needs to be managed better, he will break down come the City game, MLS is good enough and should have played, Hincapie needs minutes as well, I don't get Arteta sometimes. Other then that, expected

while he could have been rested today, Califiori has averaged around 65 mins a game aside from when he was up against Salah. He's definitely been rotated and will likely only play 60 mins again tonight.

Hopefully it's just to ensure that the team gets used to playing with Cala. Rotation too early in the season may cause difficulty in forming patterns since Hincapie will play the role very differently, as will MLS. Hoping to see more rotation a few months out or if we are 2-0 up at HT (if only).

I would have preferred Nwaneri too but Eze hopefully mitigates the need a little bit.

Don't think MLS will play leftback again in this formation unless we're void of other options; I reckon it'll be Hincapie who substitutes Calafiori once he's up to speed.

Not that bloody dreaded midfield again. I get not playing MLS with Eze at LW but would have gone for Hincapie. I'd expect both full backs to come off around 60mins.

Let's see how the front 3 do today. If you gonna go with that midfield its silly to play Merino as the right 8 too stick him on the left and Rice on the right...

You would give Hincapie his first playing time at the club, starting away, in the Champions League? Nope, that was never gonna happen. He may come on as a sub, but he would never start this match.

I don't hate this lineup.. Merino against Athletic is a different proposition than Merino v Liverpool (and he wasnt really that bad against Liverpool). I think he will get more space today. And he can certainly pop up top and finish if given the opportunity.

I reckon we will see the likes of Ethan, MLS, maybe Hincapie, Martinelli and Tross get subbed on at some point.

Not too surprised MLS isn't getting minutes. He had a great break through season, but also jeopardized a few games by picking up cards. Clear that Arteta has a fine line of trust with players.

it's about wear and tear, not number of starts. if he only plays 60 today then it's really not that much.
