Eh, we started slow, but came into the game. They pushed a little bit more toward the end of the half, but for all the forward running they were doing, has Raya even made a save yet? We seem to be blocking most of what they try to throw at us. We need to calm things down and just get hold of the game again. Rice is playing poorly, maybe Ethan comes on in his place (and Merino plays the Rice role while Ethan drives the ball forward in the Ode role). I dont think our forward players are playing too badly.

I'd like to see Nwaneri in at half for Rice. Push Merino to left 8 where he seems more comfortable.

I think Nwaneri would help Zubi come alive too. They've been daring us to play through the middle but there's no one around for Zubi to play into. All of that would in turn help Madueke/Eze not be double teamed and face stacked defenses.

Bilbao look up for it, quality football match this.

I understand playing deep to try to get beyond the press, but we need to mix in some long diagonals as well. And I think Nwaneri needs to come on, neither Rice nor Merino are going to wriggle through the lines to get the ball forward. We don't play enough one-touch football in midfield.

RTC's boys making this tough. Good game though. Their energy levels should be decreased by about the 70th minute and we hopefully can bring on players to make the difference off the bench, Martinelli, Trossard, Nwaneri. Revising my prediction. 1-0 to the Arsenal.

flobaba I resisted from commenting on your, "rest everyone, win 3-0" post, in part cos I guessed what the reaction would be 😁. But I think it was clear tonight, Athletic Club are a good side, we're just a little bit better and have much stronger options off the bench.

For me, that's a really excellent win this evening. Especially with all the players we had missing, away from home.

Think I expected a little more from Mosquera, Merino and Zubimendi in the first half because they're coming from La Liga where they've met Athletic numerous times. They should know what it's like to play here. All of them have looked a bit erratic.

I think we've had a good game so far though. Madueke has to improve his final action a bit and Rice needs to come off before the referee takes him off for us. If the others go out and put in the same performance in the second half I reckon we'll snag a 1-0 or 2-0 win. We could really use Ethan or Dowman though.

Klaus Madueke final action has been his problem for a while and the area he certainly needs to improve on to become a top player.
