Actually it's not that simple. It is a loan with an option to buy which either club can exercise. If he does extremely well and fully justifies the fee, Leverkusen have to accept they will not be aboe to sell him for more if we decide to exwrcise the option.

Similarly, if he bombs hard and looks like a 5.5m player instead of 55m, we can't back out and negotiate a smaller fee because Leverkusen can exercise the option to force us to buy.

So either way it will be exercised, as it will be beneficial to at least one club depending on whether he does well or not.

Tam we sold Kiwior for _25m IIRC - at this point, I don't think Hincapie is much better than Kiwior and the fee does seem high.

He is however 2 years younger and in his first season so I am hoping he can add some more dimensions to his game over the year or two

Tam I can see the attraction and potential, but I’m not convinced that’s worth the £50m or so we’d need to pony up for him.

We're paying that for him, whether we want to or not. I reckon there's a bit of financial downside on the deal but not too much. He lacks Calafiori's class and creativity, but he doesn't look out of place among the elite.

I was listening to the Chelsea game today on the Fotmob app. The English commentator pronounced his name as "Hinchappie". Gyokeres was "Gokerez".

It's not that hard to go on YouTube and learn how the players themselves say their own name. Geez

He's more CB than LB. I think we'd be very glad to have him if Gab was out for an extended period, less so with Calafiori.

He seems really good to me? I see him more a CB than a LB but still an excellent squad player with potential to get even better. Reminds me of Gabriel in his early days.

This is exactly what i said in a different thread. Prone to the odd error, but you can see he's got a good game. Errors will become less over time, assuming he plays more, which might be the problem. But he's clearly a good player.

I don't agree when we are attacking. I think he's a better defender but he hasn't shown the passing range of Kiwior.

I like Hincapie at CB but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Arteta make a trademark left back signing again this summer.

This is probably my concern if I think it through. I'm not sure, especially for £50m, what problem he solves in the squad. I don't really see he has the attacking instincts or nous to work as a left back in our system, and he's a very expensive back up. Moreso considering Mosquera looks a better option, though that takes nothing away from Hincapie. £50m on arguably a fourth choice centre back just doesn't make sense to me when the areas we really need to invest in are further forward.

He's obviously versatile, I know it's not an either/or in terms of positions, but it also raises questions about Lewis-Skelly going forward. If there was any real desire to see him move in-field I think we'd have seen more tangible signs of it by now. That feels more like a wish from a section of the support than anything that's being given consideration by the management.

Qwiss Yeah by "positive force" I meant his attitude and energy. Kiwior was a bit of a melancholy and anxious presence, despite ending up an underrated defender.

He seems a bit short for our usual CB type.

I don't think he's Gabriel's heir for this reason. He's already been beaten in the air a few times this season and that's not going to change. Especially with teams reverting back to 90s football.
