I wasn't even in favour of the signing when I watched his game compilations. Didn't even mind if Arteta didn't like him or didn't think he fit our game. But the way the media (throughout his time here) and the fans (mostly once he was benched in 2020) just piled in on him was kind of sad to see.
For the media it was clear, they wanted clicks and the outrage from Arsenal fans was enough to drive that engagement. As well as being a black foreigner with a big price tag who would be an easy target by some (Pogba was similarly targeted).
Our own fans only really started hating on him when they realised Arteta wasn't gonna play him and made up some crazy stories about how he's lazy, bad attitude and whatever else to justify his lack of minutes.
