Liverpool still have the exact same problems they've had all season, which is all I wanted to know. They're nowhere near good enough to threaten us on current evidence. They'll flinch again before we do.

Berta is a realist when it comes to forwards: couldn't be happier we signed Gyökeres over other options. By successfully pursuing him we got hold of a guy who lives to score goals and didn't break the bank doing it. He has his limits but he hasn't been a damp squib.

CPM Ekitike wasn't an option for us in my opinion, we were never in the race. That said, Gyökeres and Ekitike are now even on GA for the season, with neither yet to have a true purple patch. Then there's the not inconsiderable difference in their fees.

If I had last summer again, I'd approve of us going after Gyök again.

USArsenal it’s not simply Gyo v Isak it’s Gyo and Eze v Isak for the same price.

We definitely made the right call. Isak seems like a moody streaky player plus he’s injury prone.

I have a mate who is a Newcastle fan and he was telling me the reason why Isak was so good was because Jacob Murphy did all the running for him and use to put balls on the plate for him to score.

In summer I'd have taken Gyök and Eze over Isak, which would be a fairer way to frame what ended up happening when Isak went on the market late in our negotiations for Gyökeres, then Havertz's injury led us to sign Eze. It was a wise choice before that, because it's well documented that most £100m+ signings don't go too well pound for pound (Rice being one of the exceptions). And by now, I'd definitely make the same choice again.

I would have taken him over Isak and I said so at the time. Isak's injury-ridden start was so predictable, but also he's just not as good as people have made out. Good luck to him entering his late 20s with that body and that lazy attitude. This might work out as well for Liverpool as signing Fernando Redondo did for Milan.

USArsenal Haha fair. But I think there were others who had concerns over Isak too, if not the inconsistency then the brittleness.

Sicario2 Bit like how Gyökeres creates most of his goals for Sweden perhaps. Don't get me wrong, Isak is absolute class on his day, but that day tends to be no more than half a season at a time, and only when he plays no more than a game a week.

If Sweden plays two games during an international break you know he's not going to show up to the second one, and whether he's useful in the first one is pretty much a coin toss. It depends way too much on whether the ball rolls his way or not because he's not going to force anything for himself.

From that point of view we made the right choice. Even though I may have felt differently at some points during the summer as I am not a huge fan of Gyokeres!

Out of all the strikers that have moved this window the one who I really think we should have shown more interest in was Ekitike, looks a really good player and still much more to come from him.

Burnwinter The pound-for-pound point is goood, and it's probably why we are where we are right now. Berta's pragmatic approach was about asking: given that this is our budget, how can we maximise the improvement of the squad to avoid running into another iceberg whenever Saka, Havertz or Gabriel get injured?

The fact that we're far ahead of the rest even though Saka, Havertz and Saliba - along with Ødegaard - all have been out for significant chunks of the season has proven him right so far. If we had blown all the cash on (for instance) Rodrygo and Sesko, or Williams and Isak, I could easily see us having Liverpool's season right now.

Gyokeres has 4 league goals so far. Ekitike and Isak have 3 between them. I'm happy with our choice.

Yeah, well Ekitike has all 3 of those 3 goals, so....... Isak is a non factor in their scoring.

But my question remains the same... I know that we signed Gyok and Eze for the price of Isak.. That's not a like for like comparison.

At the beginning of the summer, before all the sulking and refusal to train and all that crap that happened with Isak... Would you have preferred Gyokeres or Isak? (Klaus, do not answer this, we already know your answer. lol).

I know that we are ahead of the game considering what's happened with everything, and we ended up bringing in 2 quality players for the price of one Isak.

Pereira sacked by Wolves. I'm not sure what they expected to get out of this season, or what they think a different manager is going to fix? The morons gave him a new contract extension just 45 days ago too.

I’m sure Ekitike and Isak both starting every game for us would have banged - no doubt about it.

Happy with Gyokeres though, the fox in the box goals should be his bread and butter given he won’t have much space to work in.

He will also look much better with Havertz back, both as a duo and after rotation.

Isak. I mean if you took out the money side and the NUFC not wanting to sell side altogether. It's the difficulty, the expense and the risk that decide it against him.

USArsenal well last season Isak was amazing so if it was a one to one then Isak. That's leaving out too much detail though. Isaks a fitness liability, he cost double what Gyokeres did and his transfer saga has proven to be a massive negative. The club had the choice mid Gyok transfer and so far it looks like they took the right one.
