good summary of how eze can help boost that left sided channel, while also highlighting some of the selection challenges arteta will face
this will be a test of how committed arteta is to solving our creativity problems.
for me, the path of least resistance that puts our best players in the most productive positions is
- calafiori is tasked with maintaining width, supported by gyokeres occasionally drifting left as well
- rice stays in a more traditional midfield position and crashes the box less frequently
- eze takes up a starting position out wide but doesn't have to hold width, and is encouraged to drift into the left channel spaces normally occupied by rice
- everyone else is business as usual
my mild concern is arteta's thinking still results in the tail wagging the dog. for example:
- calafiori/MLS MUST invert into midfield
- therefore, rice MUST frequently take up positions higher up the pitch
- in order to accommodate the above, eze MUST hold width on the left wing or everything will become too congested
- we remain a constipated football team until the end of time, possibly expiring from virulent IBS
