Never nice seeing that another club is in for one of our big targets and that he is open to joining them but I still don't think Eze would move to Spurs unless he knew he wasn't coming here. Now, there may come a point where he has to just pull the trigger but hopefully we don't let it get to that point. Personally, I am going to just sit back and let this all play out.

All my days as an Arsenal fan I've never seen us this bossy and strategic in the transfer market.

Bloody joy how we are chipping away at deals on players who can't wait to play for us, causing the selling clubs to tear themselves up with aggravation.

We're cruising to September, vital business locked away, kids all signed up, Saliba and Saka signing up, idly flogging off a few squad heirlooms … sure, we might not sign Eze or even any winger, but can't you lot feel the gorilla strength we're imposing on Palace and Spurs here?

Burnwinter I am 100% with you. How any fan could be upset at this window is beyond me. That combined with the ultimatums around how Arteta needs to win a trophy this year or we need to move on absolutely boggle my mind. Do fans not remember how bad things were as recently as like 4-5 years ago? I want to win a trophy (UCL or EPL only) as bad as anyone else but I also am not a trophy or GTFO person either. That being said, we are so close. Adding Eze to this squad would make it really hard for me to believe we don't end with a trophy this year.

Imagine if Spurs were already in at £65m and we showed up and said £63m. Eze would probably pay out of his own pocket to come to Arsenal instead of that lot.

samthegooner I don't think ultimatums are generally a logical way of dealing with things, but I also disagree that a relevant factor to Arteta is whether we're better than 4-5 years ago. The evaluation has to be about how he's doing relative to the funds he's given, not about whether the increased funds have made us better than when we spent less.

I like Eze but he isn't worth the dramatics in this thread. The manager has said we are still in the market. For years Arsenal had to sell before they bought anyone. We have taken care of what was important before we raised any money through player sales and still there is so much moaning. I am not sold on Madueke but all of this is because there is very little trust in him and Martinelli.

lorddulaarsenal it's only annoying because they are quickly building a decent top half side again. The pleasure of watching them drop points every week for weeks on end lasted for too little time.

I suspect we decided to pass on Eze when we 1) re-signed Ethan and 2) saw Max in pre-season against adults. Max is future right wing, Ethan and later Bukayo will move to more central positions. No room for Eze in that timeline.

I also suspect that we're now in "market opportunity" mode. We will sell who we can and sit tight until August 28, at which point we will see if an actual left wing shakes loose. My preference among theoretical possibilities would be Barcola, but I'd pony up for Rodrygo as well.

flobaba End of the day it is business, no other big club are in for him and if he gets the chance to play in the CL why would he not take it? Might be the last chance for a big move for him.

RowJimmy I do understand that reasoning but you'd think once we had extended Nwaneri the media would be briefed we're not in for him, even in the last couple of weeks the links to him and all the talk is if we can move Vieira and Trossard we'd move for him. Why would the club want the backlash when we end up not signing him?

Exactly, so if we don't go in for him, then it must mean we did not see him as priority or have an alternative in mind. Why the meltdown?

Edit: also there was obviously no movement on this until the community shield was over. That's what, 48hours ago? And one or two links later, it's become a woe is me situation? Ultimately, the player will determine where he wants to go. Not the club.

His signing would be triply magnified by a)sought after LW b) Odegaard insurance cover or C) play in Rice’s number 8 if Zubi is down (rice can play number 6). What else do you want?

The opportunity cost of him going Spurs would be sickening. Every goal, every assist we would be like ‘what if’ and those cunts will shove it down our throats too.

His signing is relative to our desires of winning something big. Doesn’t have to be peak Rivaldo or any such nonsense but good enough for us.

As always we are one player short every summer so doesn’t surprise me if we don’t get this over the line (or anyone else for that matter).

Sicario2 They've had footballers on there in recent years and not really known to make shit up.

Sicario2 Not sure if his signing would secure the league, certainly wouldn't harm our chances and like you say will give cover in multiple positions. If you gave me the choice between a top class LW or him I'd take the former but there aren't any available on the market so I'd take him.

Gives us dribbling and power through the middle as well which we don't really have.
