QuincyAbeyie I would bet a lot of money that Eze makes a huge difference if we can get him over the line. This team is crying out for another do-it-all attacker like Saka, whether it be as one of the 8's or on the LW. In a perfect world, I would love to also add pace as part of that package but Eze has proven over the last 2-3 years in the PL that he is perfectly capable of carrying an attack at Palace and can be a huge transition threat even without blistering pace. Having two rapid players (who certainly have their detractors) in Martinelli and Madueke to throw at teams off the bench or to give different looks depending on the match is something we haven't had in quite a while. It's not like we have been that far off the last two years. I get giddy imagining a semi-final tie like we had against PSG and being able to field both Eze and Saka to break down CL defenses while also having pacy options off the bench to bring in if we are chasing a game or to take advantage of counterattacking opportunities if we were closing up shop with a lead.

You can tell though, he's a facilitator/creator, not so much a wide dribbly winger.

If the idea is to try Madueke wide left and Eze inside left, we might just be on to something.

Lulz, never going to happen. Ideal? Sure. But we're not buying Eze and Rodrygo, even if we sell Martinelli (which i don't think we will be doing). Martinelli is still very useful when the game is stretched and the opponents have tired legs.

daredevil I could see us in certain situations against low blocks or chasing a goal playing what you could call a 3-2-4-1, where Zubimendi and Rice are the midfield two in front of three CBs, and then we have two wingers (Saka and Madueke) and two interiors (Eze and Ødegaard) behind a striker.

Well, unless Saka, Martinelli and Trossard (if he stays) are all injured, then yeah, if Madueke also gets injured, we'd maybe have an issue (or we could play the likes of Nwaneri there)

That said, we will definitely add another attacker. Probably Eze..

Signing Eze is important because it solves the Odegaard dilemma. Odegaard missed a chunk of last season because of injury and we looked awful. Odegaard came back into the first XI after regaining fitness and he was thoroughly awful and provided absolutely nothing of value in helping us turn the season around.

Eze is the only player we've been linked to who can do the same type of job as Odegaard if the latter is injured or doesn't go back to his 23/24 level.

Dom You are completely right that Odegaard's dip in form may drag on into this season and the last thing you want is having no senior solution to the problem while you are chasing the title.

Also we need some magic in our team, that game against Bayern Munich or PSG when things aren't working out, you need someone who can just skip past some players and either take the shot or slide someone in. Odegaard is more a combination player, we need a magician who can create something out of nothing.

Dom its true but I'd argue that even with Odegaard we were still lacking creativity and play through the middle.. if we do bring in Eze, I certainly hope that will play together.. We have brought in a striker that is obsessed with scoring, making runs of defenders and generally causing chaos... let the midfield carry the burden of the build up and creating chance so he can focus on what he does best.

he's not really a seamless fit given how we play but I can still see him being a huge boost in tight games where our passing game is stalled

He's a creative type in a team where creativity and goals were a problem last term. We have so many different permutations / options. And now we are in a 5 sub era and can make wholesale personnel changes to match the desired tactics needed to impact the game state.

These are truly exciting times. Can't wait to see how Arteta utilizes all the resources at his disposal. I believe we have built the most flexible and adaptable squad of any in Europe.

Eze is just the kind of player I like whatever role he'll play. Good close control plus a penchant for a little bit of showboating but without it getting in the way of team play. Ode and MLS are the other two already in the team. I can't have enough of these types.
