The answers in the cases of Havertz and Madueke aren't too difficult. Both were relatively painless deals with a self-designated player-trading club that's just down the road. Chelsea players already know our players, already live in London, and are already seasoned in the Premier League. Jorginho advocated with Arteta for Havertz, Rice is friends with Noni, and so on.
In Madueke's case it was widely reported we took on his rather low Chelsea wages. I get a feeling we're playing him plenty more, but he's not raking it in. In Havertz's case, it's the way his relatively high wages and injuries immobilise us in the market, more than his fee, that bothers me.
The World Cup was a decent leveller of the "Chelsea bins" misery. Havertz was one of the best German players, and Madueke isn't clearly worse than the likes of Gordon for England. Two muches of muchness.
