That shanked cross was horrific but otherwise I didn't see anything that should have alarm bells ringing yet. United had a big CB pairing and they were wrestling him to the ground at every opportunity. Not one of our other attackers set up a chance for him.

Xcdude24 I don't think he has that time. He's the win now option, he need to hit the ground running. I don't think anyone would have done well today but Arteta needs to get the team clicking soon or we'll have an issue if he goes a few games without a goal.

You're not wrong but in this game, given how we were playing, option 2 was exactly what we needed. We still weren't great but we looked better for my money.

He wasn't good and yet he gives us that single mindedness with vertical running down the middle or using the channels. People here will defend Arteta and his choices to the hilt but overlook that he started Gyokeres over a player he signed 2 years ago that knows his fellow forwards and midfielders well. Surely Arteta has seen what he needed to in training. For me it couldn't be more different. Gyokeres will score goals more goals than Havertz regardless of overall play simply because he gives an impression that he really wants to only score.

By the way Sesko in his cameo was worse.

But that doesn’t necessarily form a better attack. A different attack, sure, with different pros and cons. Players running back help the team move up by the pitch by supporting possession. Players running towards goal offer a target to create a chance but that requires players who can exploit the runs, otherwise you’re without a focal point who can help keep the ball.

The big warning sign was arteta leaking that this wasn't his signing. That seemed tactical to me. A lot of clubs analysts thought this was a bad move.

But arteta made the world think Nketiah was a footballer, the only consistent decent thing he did was tap ins from cut backs.

If arteta can't get this lad banging in the goals at this level nobody can..
