Speedster The people who pick the signings at all the other clubs top clubs avoided him.
That's just bullshit Speedy. There's no way of knowing if that's true, is there? He was linked to several clubs like Atletico and Juve but turned them down. Chelsea made an insane offer in 2024 for him according to rumours.
It's far more likely that the reason some clubs were hesitant was because of his age and the specific circumstances (Swede, Portuguese league, late bloomer). This is a player who'd only move to the absolute top tier too, and most clubs were set. Genuinely struggling with the logic that since only we signed him it's proof that nobody else was interested.
Chelsea ended up signing a younger and much worse player in Delap with a similar profile, because that's their club policy, to make money off potential rather than winning.
Speedster You loved Auba even after he dipped because he still got some goals.
I loved Auba because he won us trophies, which is something the others never did. There are big boys who make things happen and then there are pretenders who get cheered on for good touches, linkup play and workrate because they don't bring any real difference making to the table: I have very little time or patience for the latter. Your job as a striker is not to make the life of midfielders easier: it's supposed to be the exact opposite way around. The number of games Lacazette cost us because he couldn't run without his ass hanging down to his knees is insane. Bloke couldn't create separation from a training cone to get a shot off.
Once every 20-30 years you get a Henry perhaps who can do it all, but pining for him is not very productive. We're unlikely to see another one of him in our lifetimes, let alone at this club. Blokes like Ekitike and Isak are themselves far closer to Hasselbaink and Yakubu than they are to him. What have they won exactly and what have they proven?
It's ironic you bring up PSG too because Dembele was told he was technically limited for the longest of times, nothing but a pace merchant who would cross incessantly basically and punted out wide where he could do less damage. It wasn't true what they said about him back then and it's not true what people say about Gyökeres right now based on a month without a proper preseason.
Speedster I know your happy with a certain type of CF you loved Eddie. I thought he was super limited.
Eddie didn't work out which is always the risk you're running with young players whose potential is just that: potential. It's why you can't rely on them and why it's madness to invest so much money in them. Even the top percent of elite talents have a success rate well below 50%. It was still sad to see him being coached into a system player at the expense of the edge that made him much rarer than most striking talents that emerged.
