It’s all a little muddy to me.
I think Merino is more likely to score than Gyokeres, but that’s as much down to the service provided to each.
I think Gyokeres pushes defensive lines back fat better than Merino, and it enables both wide/central attacking play. However, Merino is sharper when we’re in possession in our own half.
So yeah there’s dirty work they both do, but ultimately if we’re talking CFs they need to score. Gyokeres isn’t doing that and unless things change soon, he’ll be barely remembered in a decade.
Hate to say it but he’s heading towards a Gervinho/Chamakh status.
