daredevil That's what I said. It's down to him playing the Giroud-role, which doesn't suit him that well(neither the hold-up nor the getting on the end of crosses part of that type of game), but it's also down to the manager and his team-mates that that's the types of balls we play into him.
Merino is a midfielder and drops down to meet the ball, which keeps him more involved, but he's also really good at attacking crosses(better than Gyökeres, it seems). Jesus is much more of an 10-ish striker in that he drops deep to meet the ball and dribbles his way into scoring chances(where he gets his shots blocked or passes them to the 'keeper). Also, we need a bigger sample size for Jesus than 10-minutes against a team down 0-3. But his cameo was really encouraging and part of the reason my frustration with the Gyökeres situation was accentuated. I'd like Gyökeres to play more like Jesus did there and not waste all of his time wrestling with the CBs and fighting for long-ball headers. Move, pick up the ball, create space and shoot at goal.
My hope with signing Gyökeres was that we'll finally have a striker that knows how to shoot at goal(unlike Jesus and Havertz). But if we're unable to create any chances for him to shoot(be it his fault or our gameplan, doesn't matter), then he's a pointless signing. Could have signed Woltemade or whoever if we just wanted another Giroud up front.
