Not that it matters now that we know that the add-ons are £4m but what you described in your post is not how add-ons (conditional consideration) works at all.

If in your hypothetical, if Chelsea had indeed recognised material improbable add-ons as guaranteed consideration, they'd be needing to unwind it in future periods if it failed to materialise resulting in losses. No business would take this risk, they (like most businesses) would have taken a more conservative approach to conditional consideration at inception to prevent future losses (unless they are sure It'll be met). Chelsea would have done the same if there were material improbable add-ons but as we know now, its a measly £4m so this whole cope doesn't matter anyway.

TambourineMan I’m not saying he’s nailed on for the first 11 but he’ll get 50 appearances next season easy. I can see instances where we play Havertz and Gyokeres against a low block, for instance.

Maybe we’ve paid too much for him but City have done the same with so many squad players that contributed to their titles and Havertz has a 1 in 2 record. It’s not really a problem unless you’re Kronke’s accountant

USArsenal I went to watch highlights of games Chelsea has played against us recently where he started. Even the 5-0 spanking we handed them. NM was involved in the few positive moments they've had. Good crossing, beating his man (Tomiyasu!) down the line, good ball progression.

A bit overpriced, sure. But there's a player in there. And he's coming in as back up. The narrative against him is silly.

JazzG He’s a Elneny upgrade rather than a Partey one. I think he’ll be alright for us, he’s a good player. Past his best probably but he’s an intelligent player and think he will do a job when needed.

We are one of the most compact sides in the league, especially when Zinchenko comes into midfield. So we should be able to help mask his mobility issues.

This is why you people should trust me 😆 He actually turned out better than I thought he would, watching Jorginho showed me how we needed someone like him rather than Partey, he more aesthetically pleasing on the eye but we played more compact and better with Jorg, his passing not as expansive but he made better choices with the ball. Which is why I think Zubimendi will be a big success for us.

TambourineMan as things stand he's currently the striker (unless Merino continues) which makes his signing a poor piece of business for the money. I'm not convinced that there's anything coming after Madueke. For the outlay it feels more likely he's it IMO.

We went to Brentford and signed their no. 1 and captain for a combined £40m. We've paid Chelsea £115m for two of their reserve players (and made one of them our best paid player at the same time). Where's the correlation?

Everyone we're signing this summer with the exception of Zubimendi is depth. Which is what we were lacking.

RowJimmy this does not make sense when the first XI is not good enough to go the distance. We should be improving the first XI and relegating the guys replaced into depth positions. That's what the best teams do.

Mirth It is a problem if we want to go for a game changer but can't because Havertz is blocking. It is a problem because it becomes a reference point in negotiations for other squad members. It is a problem because it makes him unsellable. Look what not caring about wages has done to Man United.

I think we have the best XI in the league. We ran out of gas and got injuries because of lack of depth. And our excessive number of draws and late concessions is similarly a depth issue, not a starting XI talent issue.
Maybe Rodrygo displaces Martinelli. That's it. IMO.

Havertz's isn't stopping us from signing a game changer - as evident by our activity this summer nor is Arteta looking to sell him. Arteta loves the guy. When Arteta wants to move someone on, he freezes them out. Having Havertz and Gyokeres is actually a fantastic outcome.

Also, for the record, Havertz wasn't a squad player at Chelsea - he started 30 out of the 36 games he was available for in his final season.

RowJimmy yeah I think we can only really upgrade on Martinelli in the first eleven as everyone else is top tier.

Ofcourse players like Mbappe and Vitinha would improve us but they ain’t available
