this is true, which makes for depressive reading. For the final step up we're competing against the forwards at Barcelona, PSG and Bayern. Defensively and in midfield we're already there, but in attack we're far more comparable to lesser teams and haven't gotten any closer in the last few years. I'd actually say we're further away than 3-4 years ago since the best attacks have gotten stronger while pre-injury issues Saka and pre-stagnation Martinelli were both better than anything we have at the moment.

We need to stop talking about our forwards as though they're Ligue 1 rejects. Jesus, our least effective forward, left for Barcelona and has enjoyed a renaissance. These forwards find themselves in tougher conditions than pretty much forwards at any other team. So they're not Kvara or Mbappe, but they are not a truly terrible bunch.

Claudius yes and no. They're obviously capable but they're not top drawer, otherwise they'd be ripping it up in Europe. It's why we had to be so pragmatic against PSG in the final last season.

Don Pacifico the point is once you get past the obvious 10 or so forwards everybody in world football loves, it’s not like there are tons of forwards better than ours. The issue is those 10 forwards are levels better than everyone else much more than our players being shit

The talk of the whole summer was how we needed a truly elite forward but on the other hand, we now look lucky to have missed out on at least some of the targets we wanted.

And by the way Rogers is nowhere near being an elite forward at the level under discussion and never will be.

In the meantime slating Havertz and Gyökeres feels willful. They might not be the perfect players but we'd be worse off without either of them.

I sorta disagree with this. I dont think we're lucky in any way, shape of form. I know Rogers is not elite, but he could be useful (though not at the price he was sold for). Vini has not played wonderful, but he isn't the only one at RM that isnt playing well. Alvarez also could've been useful (but, like Rogers, not at the price they wanted). We have left ourself pretty short up front, even though we have 2 players for each position. Lets hope Eze and Madueke can get some momentum, and that Tzolis is back soon. If Saka is out for any extended period of time, i dont think we have much choice but to dip into the market in January.

USArsenal I also think you need to continuously improve. Maybe Rogers won't be elite but I think he's quite a lot better then what we have and that's what we need to be doing. Those elite players have so much variability. Look at Salah there is no way Liverpool knew he would improve them and that's what should be the driver. If you think you're going to pick the elite player it's just unlikely to happen. We should be trending our attack up even if the players aren't going to be the elite ones.

Well, that's my point. We're lucky not to have spent £120m on barely moving the dial. I still think Alvarez could've been terrific at Arsenal but it was absurd given he didn't have the slightest desire to come.

awooga83 yep you have to take risks. People didn't realise how good Kvara was too. Even those of us who wanted him for ages before he went to PSG didn't realise he was going to be that good.

honestly all our options are so mediocre that injuries don't worry me anymore. obviously i don't want 3 and 4 injured at the same time because we actually need to be able to send trained wingers out there, but they're all the same these days. hopefully max gets some mins and offers something surprising.

I wouldn’t say they’re mediocre. I think the way we play demands a lot from our players. You have to be very good to fit here.

These compilations need to die. I watched the first minute and switched off. 3 out of the first 5 clips he is dispossessed and if you're gonna argue it's an "every touch" reel, we'll he doesn't even touch it in the second clip but does get nutmegged! What are we doing here?? Then after that we've got simple passes or clips that mysteriously cut off when he's still on the ball.. I wonder why..

I get his bar is really, really fucking low but you'd think he'd scored 5 in his last 6 or something. He's currently barely touching looking worth 1/3rd of what we paid for him. Calm down people.
