Not everyone is going to develop the way Saka has. That's why he's considered one of the best in the world.

Madueke is back-up and it's perfectly possible that with the right coaching, he'll improve his end-product in the same way that Kai has improved since joining from Chelsea. He needs to improve his end-product to become a viable option but he doesn't need to be operating on Saka's level to be a useful squad member.

Yeah he's not changing and suddenly going to improve his end product. He is exactly what we bought. We'll be lucky to get a purple patch out of him 1 season.

It's not a question of physical or tactical development, he's old enough and has been taught enough. It could however be a question of psychology and focus.

Either way it's frustrating as if this guy was reliably able to give the right final ball he would be one of the best around and even be pushing Saka for his place.

Burnwinter I was watching him and thinking that if he had half Saka’s nous and a touch of his final ball ability, he’d be a real danger. As it is, he can stand a man up and run rings around him, but I don’t expect anything to come of it.

If he was doing those things, chelsea would never have sold him

He spent 2 1/2 years there and never became quite good enough or consistent

It was pretty evident to those who've seen him play here

Yeah he can beat a man and get past players at times, but to be even a half decent RELIABLE backup he's got to get some goals or end product

I fear he'll spend 3-4 years here at this level before we either terminate him or sell for pennies

Gunner89 When in the past several years has this been true? Nelson's barely rounded a man in the last five seasons, and that last minute winner was his only contribution. He was a dud.

Not only that, when Nelson did play he did just as much of the indirect running you've been complaining about Ødegaard doing lately, with even less to show for it.

Gunner89 absolutely not. Nelson never imposed himself on games or even took on his full back.

Madueke dribbling at speed is a great sight but he's woefully short of being a top player because of his lack of control. His first and second touch are usually poor. It's a stark contrast to Saka whose first touch is immaculate however hard the ball's fizzed at him. Against better defenders and in pressure situations, Madueke finds it difficult to put defenders on the backfoot because he initially struggles to have the ball under close control.

Noni's first touch is fine. Decision making probably not so much.

Don Pacifico he's not that young. He'll be 24 in a few weeks. I don't think we are going to see considerable development from him. If he's going to add more to his game I think/hope he can learn to be a better team player in defence and build up deeper. He's really lacking in those areas and he's not doing close to enough on the other end to justify it. At least with Martinelli you get some dry spells but he does the dirty work well.

Gurgen its the most important skill. Read anything about youth development and its at the top of the list.

Doc yeah he's an ok place holder while we wait for Max to arrive. I'd give it another season after this one and then Max will have his spot.

Everything we are seeing was what was evident at Chelsea that's why I and others felt it probably wasn't the best use of resources at that moment and that is why the transfer felt the wrong call for us to take us up a level.

awooga83 Madueke was less about taking us up a level and more about stopping us falling too many if we were missing the likes of Saka or Martinelli.

Gunner89 why are you showing me a compilation I watched him then and followed his career since. Arteta didn't rate him, he flopped at Fulham and now can barely get into the Brentford team.

Madukeke for all his faults gets picked for us, used to get picked for Chelsea and features for England. There's plenty better than Noni but Reiss Nelson isn't one of them.

Also that compilation isn't that impressive - it's literally the goal v Bournemouth that's a stand out

Qwiss Agreed and it is not even close. Reiss can't even get into Brentford's team, maybe if he didn't have all those injuries things would be different but he did have the injuries.

Tam Showed this season he stepped in for Saka and did well. The end product clearly needs to improve but he has done a lot things well when he is playing so to me that indicates the end product will come eventually. He isn't a first choice player but a high quality backup.

We paid 50m for him and whilst I had more hope for him than what he has delivered so far - we got what we paid for. We got a genuine quality backup who allows us to sit Saka and it's not the end of the world.
