If you could teach him if he wanted to learn theirs a player in there. He has the attributes you can't coach baked in. It's not a job I'd take on as a coach. His concentration looks terrible, Gerrard scored the highest of anyone ever tested at Liverpool by a mile. Saka is a concentration monster as well. This guy looks the complete opposite.

Who knows Noni might be miles better if they just get him on the right meds. Unless theirs a big outgoing this is really is bizarre. That being said I think he'll do well in the CL him and Gok both running in behind. And anyone with his type of pace of the bench against tired legs will do damage.

Think this is what Arteta has in mind with all these 'runners ' in general... Problem is when the opposition decides to have 2 players sit on Odegaard all game and we have fuck all else in the creative department to feed them....

Speedster the thing that's most surprising about all this is that his reputation is as a guy who doesn't train well. Arteta has always been about getting in the most professional guys he can but this signing is just unArtetalike in almost every way. Weirdly sloppy looking sort of maverick player who loves high risk flicks and dribbling into dead ends, bad PR, previous coach said he wasn't training hard enough. Its like he's signed a combination of the traits he didn't like from Auba, Pepe and ESR. So that just leaves the question "why?", he must really think he can do something with this kid.

Qwiss Do people think Madueke will get as many touches in the box or as many progressive carries with us as he did with Chelsea?

Pretty sure we had quite a lot more touches in the box than Chelsea last season, so yes to the first part at least.

Here's the one thing i think we need to remember. Chelsea have been making players look like shit in recent season because they had no plan, no structure and no idea what they were doing. And also, i dont think Madueke will be first choice, generally speaking. He's an expensive sub/spell player. I do think he is a little better than he has shown while at Chelsea, but how much better, i guess we'll find out. I do think some structure and some plan would help him focus more. Chelsea has been SO scattered the last couple seasons.

That stopped being true once Maresca took over. This isn't a Havertz situation where Chelsea were finishing 12th when we got him. Previously underperforming players like Caicedo had excellent seasons last year.

He can be better than Martinelli if he locks in. If that's the projection, I'm fine with signing just Eze as our final incoming to help with our creativity issues from the left midfield position

Doc given that we're signing a centre mid who's very comfortable playing forwards from deep and a human bulldozer of a centre forward, the early signs suggest Mikel Arteta might agree we need to mix it up.

Klaus I'm shocked over the way public opinion seems to have swung on Martinelli.

Don't know it has really, but even the doves on here have been giving Martinelli shit for quite a while.

Great player, but his place has become precarious because he seems ill-suited to our tactical norms while retaining a high transfer value. He's still surely very hard to upgrade.

It may be wisdom to sell him on, but we can afford to give him at least a half season to see if he clicks with our revamped front 5 / 6. He could be on the brink of the best football he'll ever play.

Burnwinter I don't think it's about our tactical norms. Martinelli just doesn't have good feet. He dribbles in straight lines and relies on twitchy changes of pace to beat defenders. He can't really manipulate the ball and weave in and out the way Saka can, or Madueke can for that matter. That is always going to make him a limited player out wide. He still has his strengths and I am rooting for him to be the best version of himself, but we are talking about winning the Premier League or Champions League here.

Gazza M There's a lot of really good stuff in that video IMO. So good at bursting past his man from a standing start or slow dribble with just a touch or two. Fearless at taking on multiple players. He covers a lot of ground with his strides and pushes the defense back. I think he'll benefit from having more structure when it comes to that final end-product decision.

Yes, this is true by the numbers and the eye test: Saka and Madueke both win 1 on 1 about 50% more often than Martinelli (per time they try). Probably a fair measure too.

Martinelli is an odd player. Several big weaknesses in his game, but also several massive strengths. If he could be better at utilizing his strengths, he'd be an extremely good lw.

That's why klopp loved him and that's why he looked better when we had worse players and teams came at us more.
