Other than a blisteringly brilliant left sided forward the other type of player I feel the squad could do with is a creative ball carrying midfielder. Somelike like Wilshere who had that burst and ability to feed others, or Rosicky who could change the tempo with an electrifying dart forward

lorddulaarsenal Would agree with this. Ideally, we are only adding 2-3 players each summer moving forward to raise the ceiling of the squad now that we have raised the floor with depth across the board. I would love to add a winger like Barcola and a midfielder like Rogers to this team. The other guy I really like is Yildiz at Juve but he's more of a player we'd likely need to accommodate more since his best role looks to be more of a traditional 10 behind the striker.

lorddulaarsenal -- Rosicky would be a really interesting "ace in the sleeves" for Arteta to throw on when trying to win a game (from a tie, or losing scoreline). We don't really have anyone who can accelerate the pace of a game quite like he could.

In an odd way, it's only Calafiori who seems to add that urgency.

Arteta has all the tools he needs this season. Hopefully he will use them all to give us the best shot in every competition. It's early days but so far he's doing quite well.

Sicario2 I have never really understood the 'first team player' or the 'starting XI' thing. If you are plaing in the CL then the game requires a squad. Its no longer about the starting XI but about the squad. Frankly it has been so for more than a decade now. With that in mind i do feel Martinelli has a place in the squad. I would even go ahead and start him in certain games given the opposition. IMO unless you are a Salah or a Haaland or a defender the concept of guranteed starter a bit outdated.

The problem is that you need two players to play the give-and-go. We don't really do that. Eze is a classic Rosicky-type in that sense, but he doesn't get the ball back once he pops it off (or hasn't yet, anyway).

Those two could really cook together. I doubt we'll see them close to each other on the pitch very often though 😢

He's learning though. There's a few things he's done in recent matches he hasn't really done much of before, including turning his marker to eat up some space.

Jack was a different level mind. Maybe Max will get there.

Yep. I feel I'm really harsh on him. Partly because of the level of wunderkid that have been coming through recently not just here at Arsenal but globally. He's been very good considering the level of opposition he's coming up against and being able to hold his own and make the right decisions in "protected" environments. I would say he's still in phase 1 of his development but tracking along nicely. Meets expectation.

Let's see if he can make the leap to exceeding expectations through the course of the season. For me that would mean he is able to come on and make a positive impact in limited minutes in away games, or tougher home games.

Arteta has got his work cut out when it comes to setting the kid up for success and giving him adequate playing time.

Qwiss In a different position. The Ødegaard role has significant added tactical responsibility as well. I think he can get there, but it's a different proposition than throwing a talented kid on the wing.

We saw what his progress looked like last season. He was a relatively unknown quantity then. Now that folks are much more aware of his skill set and the danger of his left foot, how does he compensate, adapt, and still be impactful? That's what I'm talking about.
